From the Ashes (The Darkwood Academy Series Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 976 ratings

Dear Mom,
Why wasn’t I enough? Why did you and Dad forget you had me to take care of and love? I miss you.
Do you even know where I ended up? Let me tell you.
At the gates of Hell.
And I wish I was being dramatic, but Darkwood Academy is just that. A literal Hell for me.
I’m constantly bullied and tormented by the students here. And they’re relentless in their pursuit to get rid of me. All because they take directions from the Kings of Darkwood.
Yeah, I laughed too. Who calls themselves that?
But Daxon, Mason, and Colton are three guys who have made it their mission to make my life hell. They run this school, and I seem to be in their way. Why not get everyone to gang up on me?
I just wish you were here. I have no one to turn to, no one to talk to. You selfishly left me. Left me to live this life alone.
And that’s what I am, Mom. Alone.
I hope you’re watching over me from above. I know I’m looking up to you.
Because now more than ever, I need a guardian angel.

Love,
Phoenix.

Poor Phoenix, abandoned by everyone and sent by her hateful aunt to Darkwood Academy. Here everyone also hates her except her room mate Liz. This book has Phoenix being bullied by the usual rich kids who call themselves the kings and queens. I felt so sorry for her, she has no one and seems to be in a constant state of depression. She doesn’t know why she must attend this academy and hates every minute of it. Being constantly bullied doesn’t help even tho she sees a therapist weekly you can see her gradually getting worse as the book progresses.
This book brought tears to my eyes, especially that cliffhanger ending. I really want to find out what happens next, this is such a great read from Lynn but be sure to read the TW first.

Oh my goodness! What did I just read! Wow, just wow. This book started out a little slow but once it picked up boy did it pick up. I have obsessively read this in less than a day. Could not put this down. This is my first book by this author and it won’t be my last.

Phoenix has my heart. This is one strong FMC with a heart Of a lioness who is broken yet trying so hard to rise from all that life has thrown at her. Lynn has a wonderful way of making you feel rage and despair in equal ways. The angst is off the charts. I was shook. I felt so many emotions, wow, it’s been a while since a book has done that. There is a lot of grovelling and redemption needed from Dax, Mason and Colt.

That cliffhanger is brutal and I now have a massive book hanger. Lynn, we need book 2 already!!

Now an orphan, Phoenix is sent to the Darkwood Academy for her final year of high school. Here she meets 'the kings', three wealthy boys who rule the school. She is incredibly attracted to them, but they have promised to drive her away.
Nasty bullying and hot scenes throughout the story, Phoenix is an amazing character, strong and determined in the face of horrendous treatment: stereotypical girl bullies are set alongside intelligent and devious young men who question their behaviour as they revel in it.
I have just bought the next two in this series.

Amazing start to a new series. Phoenix has had too many tragedies in her life and is feeling abandoned and alone. She is shipped off to Darkwood Academy where she is made to feel unwelcome and is told she doesn't belong there. Phoenix has has a backbone and doesn't bow down to the Kings which leads to the whole school turning on her. Phoenix is determined that they aren't going to break her and make her leave but how can one girl win against a whole school of students and teachers. This was a gripping read from beginning to end and I really can't wait to read the next book. Definitely recommend. I loved it 😍

Both her parents dead, Phoenix was now in the care of her aunt. She was sent to Darkwood, a school for the extremely wealthy, and where the Kings were hell bent on making her life a misery. A story of tradegy, abuse and bullying suffered by such a stoic woman, who gave as much as she got, thought to be an easy target but proved the exact opposite. An excellent, steamy read that I thoroughly enjoyed and will definitely be reading more from this talented author. Great job!

I probably would have given this book more time if the heroine wasn't so unlikable and vapid. But of course the MMCs take one look at her and she's gods gift. The heroine has been through a lot but honestly it doesn't sound like she was a bundle of sunshine to begin with. The fact that her friends from before all this don't even text or call her sums up her character for me.

The writing style is way too descriptive, I enjoy a good world build but honestly at some point a wall is a wall.

Just... wow. This book was all kinds of intense, and I knew that ending was coming, but still wasn't prepared for the complete and utter heartbreak. I am so disappointed and disgusted with the mmcs. I actually have no words, and I just want to wrap Nix up in a hug. Fantastic writing that made this story amazing. I honestly could not put it down.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW!! A mind-bender for sure!

I see RED!!! This book made me want to rip it apart and hug it simultaneously. So what the intimate RH scenes were written on an intense and fiery level. Who cares that the bullies were depicted with absolute accuracy? Everything in this book was done to perfection, except the ending. It absolutely blew my mind and I was not expecting it. For that reason alone, this book deserves FIVE STARS. (No spoilers)

Pheonix (the female lead) is utterly tormented in school. She's already stuck battling a tragic personal life behind the scenes, but when she starts her last year of high school, she is in for a rude awakening. She doesn't face only one bully, but an entire school headed up by a crew of the most popular boys and their female minions. The level of wickedness and angst in this book was off the charts. I felt so much while reading this.

From page one, From the Ashes had me all kinds of angry, broken, and raging, and by the end I was speechless. I can't say much more, I don't wanna spoil it. What I will say is that this author nailed the genre of Bully Romance. I am fully invested and need the next book before I snap my Kindle in half.

Wow, I read this book so fast, I think it gave me whiplash (also, some actions in the book, which I won't go on about, since they would be spoilers). Great characters whom you can love and hate, great start of Phoenix' story. Can't wait for more!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect start to a series

My heart is bleeding for a Phoenix, it’s such a roller coaster emotional ride for her. The cliffhanger is literally killing me, even though we get to see the both of next book but still, my anxiety is piqued with all the anticipation of what happens next. Phoenix has a very strong character and she is very kind. I love how she tackles her problems head-on.

I have read other books by Lynn Rhys and they were good but this book completely touches my heart and will definitely leave a mark. I love how she writes and brings life to the characters, everything seems so surreal. This book has perfect a amount of spice that will leave you soaked and wanting for more. It has some major trigger warnings and you must read them first before starting the book.

The best part of the book that roped me in was its blurb and it left me wanting to know what when why. Every pain, every feeling of Phoenix does feel like it’s my own. Boys Daxon, Mason, and Colt are like a puzzle to me, I couldn’t make out their actual intentions and it leaves me in a midst of figuring out what actually they mean by everything.

It’s a very dangerous game Kings are playing and it seems only Phoenix is going to pay for it. Being left alone and having that feeling for a long time just starts breaking the spirit and it’s too much for her to deal with. I’m still in awe of her persona and determination to make herself a life in spite of all the darkness lingering in the corner.

Amazing series, highly enjoyed everything. Lots of laughs, love, sad and terrible times. Very intense series so I would say read the warnings before reading as it may upset some people. Loved the fire Pheonix has inside her. Risen from the ashes over and over. Truly a wonderful book and series.
