Heart's Rescue: A Steamy Enemies to Lovers Fantasy Romance (Fallen Hearts) Kindle Edition

4.2 4.2 out of 5 stars 145 ratings

For fans of ACOTAR and From Blood and Ash, this romantic fantasy about a noblewoman who falls into a forbidden world and the dangerous outcast who can save her is a page-turning adventure!

Rowan Undervale is nobody’s hero.

With dark magic that’s made him an outcast, Rowan cares for one person and one person only: his brother Phaedron. When a monster from the Worlds Above attacks his brother, Rowan manages to save Phaedron’s life. But when that first monster is followed by a second, this time a woman looking for her prince, Rowan is ready to hand the lady over to the king and be done with monsters forever.

But his brother asks for a favor… so Rowan promises to look after the woman, at least until he can get her back to the Worlds Above. Rowan is certain he’ll be able to find a hole in the barrier between their worlds.

But will he be able to let her go?

Lady Arryn came to the land of monsters to rescue her prince.

It’s what any lady would do for the man she’d been raised to marry. Besides, rescuing the prince might finally be enough to force the king to agree to the marriage her parents have been trying to arrange for her entire life.

But the frozen Lands Below are nothing like Arryn expected. And Rowan, the brilliant and bitter sentry who is now her only hope of finding her prince or returning to the Worlds Above, possesses strange, horrific magic. What’s worse, he treats her far more like an equal than like a lady.

And the most terrifying part is, she’s starting to like him.

Snarky and steamy, Heart’s Rescue is an enemies-to-lovers adventure with dual point-of-view (his and hers). The first in a complete series of connected stand-alone novels, this sweeping tale of love, survival, and discovery ends with a hard-won Happily Ever After and is perfect for readers looking for a sprinkle of spice in their next swoon-worthy, passionate romantasy.

Rowan and his brother, Phaedron, survive in the World’s End in the Land Below. That is, until Phaedron’s arm is cut off by a monster, which Rowan then drags to the King before setting out for revenge on all monsters for what happened to his brother. Arryn is a lady from the Land Above, determined to show everyone she is more than just an object by travelling to the Land Below to find her beloved Prince. Rowan and Arryn meet in the Land Below and, naturally, try to kill each other. But they end up getting along better than either of them would have thought. My favourite character was Rowan and my least favourite character was Folwynn. I recommend this book because it’s an enemies to lovers fantasy romance, what more could you want? The one-bed trope, threatening each other with knives, hating everyone but each other, sacrificing their lives for each other. The characters are layered and complex, the story is interesting and compelling, the love is pure and strong. ‘How wrong I was. There is nothing cold here, nothing at all like ice.’

This is the first fantasy/paranormal romance book in the series. In this book we follow the story of Arryn and Rowan. As one of my favourite genres, I was looking forward to getting into this one and I’m glad I did, it was great. There are some mature scenes so I would not recommend for younger readers.
I enjoyed the world that the author created, and the descriptive writing made it feel like I could step into it to join the characters in their adventures. I can’t wait to get my hands on another book in the series just to continue exploring the worlds, so much potential for more great plots – the below and the above!
The plot was incredibly interesting, the above and the below created an intriguing element that had me wanting to know more, there’s so much more to be explored there.
The characters were also well-written, described well so I could picture their mannerisms and features, and believable. I loved both Arryn and Rowan, especially given how they started out. Enemies from different worlds, I enjoyed how they gradually got to know one another and sparks flew. It was a believable and enjoyable transition, and I was rooting for them to the very end. They’re both determined and strong characters, and even with magic, they felt real for me.
I look forward to seeing what the next book will bring!

This is book 1 of the Hearts Below series. I was captivated by this book from the first page. It is a paranormal romance which is my favourite anyway but the author's amazing write created a world and characters that I loved. The two main characters of Rowan and Arryn are both so well written that they jump off the page.
This is a enemies to lovers story which is full of action, adventure and steamy romance.
When Arryn's betrothed goes missing she takes it upon herself to find him. Little does she realise that he has landed in World Below.
After she falls there herself she finds herself in a dangerous world she doesn't understand.
Rowan is a guard who has to take over patrolling Worlds Below after his brother was injured by a monster from the World Above.
When he comes across Arryan he knows she is a monster and should destroy her on sight however there is something different about her. As they work together to try and get Arryan back to the world above Rowan realises he doesn't want to let her go.
What will happen when Arryan realises that the Prince she came to rescue is no longer the love she wants?
Can they relationship between Arryan and Rowan actually work with them being from different worlds?
What is the additional magic that Rowan possesses and how will that effect them?
This is a fast paced paranormal adventure filled with romance, danger, and magic. You will fall in love with the characters and find yourself cheering for their victory but will they be able to face all the dangers and challenges ahead of them?

Heart's Rescue by Meredith Hart is part of the Hearts Below series. This is the first book I have read by this author, and I found it really enjoyable. Rowan's life is changed forever when he discovers his brother lying dismembered in the woods, after being attacked by a monster from the land above. Rowan must take on his brother’s role as protector of the town. One night on sentry duty, Rowan discovers another monster, Arryn. Arryn is on a mission from the land above to find her missing prince. The pair start out on an adventure to find him together but discover they have more in common than they first thought. This is a good book for those who like fantasy romance and enemies-to-lovers storylines. I will be reading more books in this series.

5.0 out of 5 stars I picked this up on a whim, and I'm glad I did!

I wasn't really expecting anything when I picked up this book. I didn't even read any reviews first, I just picked it up on a whim. I really loved it! It's got cool world building, convincing characters, a fun plot, and an intriguing story.

I love Arryn (even if I'm not a fan of her name). She's a believable character, and all of her decisions make sense based on who she is presented as in the book. I hate it when characters make bad decisions exclusively for plot purposes, but you don't get any of that here. They're all justified by who the character is and what they've gone through. I liked Rowan too, he was a good hero.

Spice level: some on screen sex scenes but nothing crazy explicit. I wouldn't call this a smut book, but it's not closed door either. No judgement either way for what you're looking for, just wanted to be transparent.

Editing: This book isn't as polished as a book written by an author with a whole editing team, but the typos were mainly where words got autocorrected to the wrong word, not outright spelling errors. There are a handful of mistakes, and a few sentences that could have been reworked to make more sense, but nothing egregious, and nothing that made me want to stop reading.

Favorite scene: where they're forced to share a bed roll to not die of frostbite!

World building: sooo good!! I love the world created and I really hope this series continues. I'm so intrigued and want to learn more.

HEA?: Yes! Totally satisfying. No cliffhangers for this couple. I want to see how the world progresses with some of the changes made during the story, and I would like to see a little snippet from afar about how Arryn and Rowan are doing in later books, but I'm content with where their story is.

Any thing I wish was explored more: yeah, I would have liked to see some cool things Arryn discoveres with how to use her fire magic. She just lights a few things on fire, but what if she made fire illusions (kidding, she'd hate that), or spectral fire animals or something? It would have been neat if her and Rowan's magic could work together in a cool way to push back the void or something, or to work well traveling through it.

Overall, would I recommend it? Yes! If you like fantasy/adventure books, with a nice romance, I would especially recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!

Heart’s Rescue is the first book in the Heart’s Below/Fallen Hearts series by Meredith Hart. It is a wonderfully epic romantic fantasy- with an enemies to lovers theme, action, adventure, magic, danger, drama, monsters, fate, family dynamics, chemistry, steam, superb world-building, interesting characters, layers, banter, violence, emotion, and more.
As I have come to expect from Ms. Hart, her rich, detailed and descriptive writing easily brought her world, and all the characters, to life- and quickly grabbed my attention and pulled me into the story where I got to experience all the action and developments right alongside the characters.
The story hooked me right from the beginning and held me in its grasp the whole way through. I got quite lost in the story (in a great way) and I didn’t want to leave, even when I had devoured every last word. I can’t wait to see where we go from here!
Meredith Hart has done it again with this fantastic start to her series, because if this book is anything to go by- the rest of the series is set to be even more awesome! Bring it on!
Highly recommended!
Happy Reading…

Thank you, Meredith Hart!

4.0 out of 5 stars Lovely story to read

I really didn’t know what to expect from this story! I thought Rowan would be a jerk who got on my nerves but he was just really insecure about himself. I wanted to read more of Arryn’s magic! Fire magic used to bring to life a new world! Good story to read! Loved that she is a black woman!! Kudos!

4.0 out of 5 stars Lovely romantic story
Reviewed in Australia on 1 January 2023
M9st of the plot revolves around the MC's developing relationship and their own growth. The plot was more of a sideline to that. The prince was a very paper thin character and it was quite obvious what was going to happen in terms of her feelings for him. Same goes for her mother and I felt she was way too compliant and dominated by her. Still the story was well told.

A great read. Can two strangers from different worlds work together. Rowan can't believe that someone else has come through to their world. He doesn't know if he can trust Arryan as she could be here to murder his people. Arryan can't believe that she made it but she has no idea on how to find the price. Can she trust Rowan to help her? Their adventure will change everything.
