Caught in the Basilisk's Gaze: A Fae Fated Mates Dark Fantasy Romance (Monsters of Faery) Kindle Edition

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 251 ratings

My fated mate doesn't want me—but if he doesn't claim me, I die.

I risked my life to help fae flee a tyrant king. When my own escape goes wrong, I'm left stranded in the wilderness with an injured, arrogant fae mercenary. The last thing he wants is to claim his mortal soulmate, but we have to rely on each other, or die.

Unfortunately, he's half-basilisk, and a single glance will kill me. Unless we mate… every three days.

He's cocky, aloof, and far too aware of what his venom does to me. From the wilderness to the fae High Court, he's my unwilling companion—and devoted, deadly protector. I can't help being drawn to his passion and the playfulness he only shows me.

I'm hunted by a king and cursed with deadly magic I can barely control. He's haunted by a past he refuses to acknowledge and secrets he can't avoid.

Alone, we don't stand a chance... but together, we might bring a kingdom to its knees.

"Caught in the Basilisk's Gaze" is a complete story with a guaranteed happily-ever-after. This steamy fated mates romance features leads with troubled pasts forced into alliance—and thrown into the midst of a high-stakes conflict between fae kings.

Truly entertaining. The story kept me hooked and wad easy to read. The two main characters were totally different but very interesting. The fact that they were soul mates and needed to find their balance was what kept the story interesting. Great description of their world and how different the two characters were but how they came together.

Not my favourite book in this series. I didn't feel the connection between main characters. H was sending to many mixed feelings for me. The heroine was ok . The story is original and I enjoyed it . But I didn't like the main characters and the hot /cold ,I want you but I don't want to want you.

I went into this book after already falling in love with every ML and half the side Characters in the 3 previous books (Flame of Faery, Raven prince, Fae beast) and it did not dissapoint. Its always nice to see mentions of the other courts and what the other characters have been up to, but it also takes the world building to a new level. I love feeling like they still exist and are active in this saga.
The story is captivating from the get go, but even though these could technically be read as stand alone, I would say to read them in order. It leads to better understanding of the world, its magic and lore etc..
I genuinely laughed, smiled goofily and gasped in shock and excitement at my kindle as I read.
If you've read the others, then keep on reading, this will bring you great joy. If you're new to the Monsters of Faery series by the author, then throw yourself into this enchanting, lightly dark, spicy, fantasy romance and don't think twice. The characters are lovable, elements of morally grey-ness in some and oh so hot (haha), what's not to love...

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

P.S of you want to read them in the recommended order: Captured by the Fae Beast, In the claws of the Raven Prince, Claimed by the Flame of Faery and then Caught in the Basilisks gaze.

The Monsters of Faery series is one that I come back to and re-read often. This is another beautiful tale to include in it. You don't need to have read the others but oh I would ask you to do so. They are are captivating. The capacity of this author to pull you into this beautiful broken world is spellbinding.

Vaduin is a fury and because of his very special amalgam you have to be rather intimate with him to able to look into his eyes, they are those of a basilisk after all. He could be classed as a rather morally grey hero but I think he, like many others, shows the face that people expect to see. It betrays nothing of his inner turmoil and hides any true feelings that he has. Finding his soulmate has his entire world crashing down around him.... again. Strangely though, despite everything he is not afraid of being vulnerable with her and I have to admit he was frighteningly easy to fall in love with. Danica had the sarcasm, brains and kindness to make her competely fun and likeable. She made her decisions and she stuck with them. It was not easy in many cases and I can honestly say that I felt for her when she had nothing but former bedmates of Vaduin's to deal with on a daily basis. She was perfect. I know I shall be reading this one again.

I started with a few pages and thought that this book was going to be one that I hate to read but must for the sake of who knows why but I could not believe how wrong I was!!! It’s full of fantastic world building, well written, tons of hot & wild smut, really strong male & female main characters that are so well balanced for each other. This is not your cookie cutter fantasy romance, this is THE fantasy romance that you just gotta read!

I was not expecting this well paced story, with a brilliant plot, perfectly balanced love scenes, completely part of the story. The story was a surprise from start to finish, with beautiful plot twists and where the emotions feel true and natural. The world building is genius, with enough modern slang and reference to sell it. Brilliant writing as well. One of my best read this year for sure!

5.0 out of 5 stars My new favorite book of all time
Reviewed in Germany on 28 June 2024
I loved everything about this. The building of trust, the dumb misunderstandings, the love building. Absolutely everything. After keeping distance from everything and everyone Vad was just so cute in the end. Like a traumatized kitten learning to trust his person. He was just so cute (even in the spicy scenes). I loved their dynamic and how they overcame their traumas together and build a foundation of trust and then getting together together… I‘m just happy💕
I also liked Cass very much. He was totally the best friend one could wish for (for Vad and Danica).
(Spoiler warning)
I just don’t understand why the deal with the god was never mentioned again after Vad was healed after the escape. It seemed like a big deal at first and I was so sure that it would come up again. But it just didn’t and that is a bit strange to me. Like there is an unfinished trope that just got left hanging.

But all in all:
Very spicy (I mean it is in the description) so if you don’t like detailed smut don’t read this
(there is especially one unusual smut scene -if you take out the fetishes of Vad- that has to do with his anatomy being different, that surprised me, but was nice)
Totally cute relationship building💕
Trauma and action - nice storyline working it all together
11/10✨

I cannot believe how incredible this book was!

The character's growth was a real journey and the intricacies of this world created a beautiful tapestry!

I got this in Stuff Your Kindle Day and now need to read the whole series❤️
