James R Martin

James R. (Jim) Martin is an Emmy, award-winning Producer, Writer, and Director of Film, Television, Video, Multimedia, and Digital Media Productions. He was Director of the Documentary Filmmaking Course for twenty years at Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida. Before coming to Full Sail University, Professor Martin taught film production at Columbia College in Chicago for 13 years. He also taught Directing at the University of Central Florida as adjunct faculty. Jim studied film at the London Film School in London. Credits include two Emmy nominations and an Emmy Award for the Nationally aired PBS documentary - Fired-up Public Housing is My Home and Chicago Film Festival, Golden Plaque for Best Network Documentary for Emmy nominee, Wrapped In Steel, also seen nationally on PBS stations—2008 Telly Award of Best Short Documentary on Make-A-Wish Foundation. Professor Martin has worked as an editor, cameraman, producer, writer, and director in film and video production. He has taught film and video production for thirty-three years. And written, produced, and directed feature-length fiction films, Public Television documentaries, commercials, short films, corporate and industrial films, and videos. He is the author of Create Documentaries Films, Videos and Multimedia (3rd Edition) and numerous articles and reviews of documentary films (Jrmatinmedia. com). He is the author of Actuality Interviewing and Editing, Documentary Directing and Storytelling, Listen, Learn, Share, and Silhouettes and Shadows -- a novel. He has recently translated, written, and edited two books from China. Office and Home Tai Chi and The Shaolin Temple Story. Currently working on a new novel and a nonfiction work. In 2016 he was invited to give the keynote speech at the 22nd Annual China Academic Documentary Conference in Shenzhen, China. He also participated as a panelist in a discussion forum and as a presenter at China Television Awards. Invited to give talks on Documentary Story Telling and Actuality Interviewing at several Chinese Universities, he returned to China in 2017,18, and 19.
