Learn JavaScript Quickly: A Complete Beginner’s Guide to Learning JavaScript, Even If You’re New to Programming (Crash Course with Hands-On Project, Book 5) Audible Audiobook – Unabridged

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 576 ratings

Become a master coder and cash in the big bucks: JavaScript programming made easy.

Do you want to develop a skill that will ensure you never go jobless again?

Have you always wanted to learn how to program, but could never afford those ridiculously expensive courses?

Developers and programmers are amongst the highest paid professions in the world, and according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, the number of jobs for software and app developers will increase by a shocking 24 percent in the next few years.

In 2019, the tech industry posted 4.6 million job openings in the US job market, and their direct economic output was estimated at 1.9 trillion dollars.

There’s no doubt that the IT industry is the future, and software, web, and app developers are and will be the most coveted professionals for many years to come. But here’s the shock you may not have seen coming: The IT industry has a backdoor - you only need to know how to open it in order to jump straight on that cash wagon.

The key to that door is JavaScript, a programming language that has withstood the test of time and has become one of the most used languages.

You might have heard about some of the companies that use JavaScript: Netflix, Google, Microsoft, eBay, Facebook, Uber, PayPal - the list goes on and on.

Being proficient in JavaScript will basically ensure that you never run out of job options. As with pursuing any new concept, learning how to program can be intimidating, especially for beginners. Even though JavaScript is incredibly beginner-friendly, it’s still complex enough for you to need a guide to lead you through the process of mastering it.

I read this as a supplement to a paid online JavaScript course by @WellPaidGeek (Twitter), a paid Web Development course instructed by Colt Steele on Udemy, and a free set of JavaScript exercises on Javascript30.com. I’d read this book before bed and it touched on some topics these instructors missed. You’ll need more than just this book to learn JavaScript well so look for other online courses (paid or free) and code, code and then code some more! I wish you well in your journey to becoming a developer!

This book starts off great, giving good details on the basic JavaScript programming commands, but then in Chapter 7 it suddenly goes off the rails. The author introduces a whole bunch of new topics in two pages, provides minimal explanation of them, and then moves on to something completely different. This continues into Chapter 8. I don't want to waste my time trying to learn from this book so I am trying a different book and giving up on this one. Maybe it gets better in Chapter 10, I'll never know.

I should've gotten Java for Dummies but this is a good 2nd. The book assumes you have networking and other basic skills in the bag.. it'll eventually make decent reference material.

I know the title says it’s for beginners however I strongly encourage anybody to dabble and learn some basic coding knowledge / functions before diving into this book as it can be a handful for computer science novices.

3.0 out of 5 stars Typographical Error
Reviewed in Canada on December 19, 2023
There are typographical errors - at least in the Kindle version of this book. : -( In Chapter 10, under the "Break and Continue" section, the function in the JavaScript file is (properly) defined as "findLowRow()", but in the corresponding HTML file it is (improperly) called "findlowrow()". Also, I believe the <h1> and <h2> definitions in the HTML file have typographical errors.

This is a very useful book and I'd love to award it more stars. What I really want is some way to contact the author/publisher to see if there is some correctional addendum available, but I have been unable to determine how to do this .

5.0 out of 5 stars Reader friendly, logical approach
Reviewed in Japan on May 27, 2021
This book seems to have good direction, starting with a very informative & helpful background to JS and moving through practical stuff in logical sequence via clear explanation. Far superior to a half-dozen other JS books I bought, 3 or 4 of which are grounded in amateurish teaching styles and incomprehensible pigeon-english.
