My 45 YO Emperor PL 110 kit M300 chimes came to a stuttering halt over the past year. My Google fu was lacking. This kit not only had the needed tools but pointed me to some very informative web sites.
After going through the suggested steps there was no improvement. In the process I learned the clock was supposed to have had a clean and lube every two years and even then the life expectancy was 40-50 years. The quarter hour chime pivots were obviously oval. Figuring I had nothing to lose I ran the mechanism through the very soiled option of my dishwasher, then sprayed it all down with a good soaking of WD40, and after letting it sit overnight, repeated the kit's clean and oil process. Now the clock mostly works, The quarter hour chimes gear seems to have skipped a tooth. Two notes of the quarter hour strike have been taken from the front of one ring and appended to the end of the next. It keeps time perfectly. The mechanics for this model are no longer available. Emperor has drop in replacement for $800.00. At my age and with no one likely to want this for a family heirloom, this purchase was well worth the money.
