If you’ve ever wanted to know the history of Miami in the late 80’s / early 90’s this book sums it up. Hard to read at times because you know it isn’t fiction but it’s a fascinating collection of Miami’s past

The book is fast-paced, informative, and makes you feel privy to many personal aspects of Griselda Blanco's life. Given that the book ends at a time when her career was far from over, it is surprising Richard Smitten never followed up the book with a sequel. Three of her children met violent deaths, as did she, something consistent with a frequent theme in the book--the many enemies she and her children had earned as the result of their acts of violence. It was a great read.

It's hard to believe this book is not fiction. The events are riveting, and described in an enjoyable, readable format.

I do want to say how disappointed I am that this book is out of print and some copies are apparently selling for as much as $65.00. That is just nuts. I hope there is a re-issue at some point. This book is good, but it should cost under $10.00.

Fans, like me, of SCARFACE, GOODFELLAS, SNOWBLIND and COCAINE COWBOYS will want to snap up this book. You will be taken into the "reality beats fiction" world of the Godmother Griselda Blanco, who was covered on COCAINE COWBOYS 1 and 2, but this is the best coverage of her true, ruthless, murderous, epic, queen of coke, story. Details of her childhood in Colombia, her building of a ruthless empire, up to smuggling cocaine into the USA via extraordinary methods and the way she was brought down are all described and riveting insights to read. Plenty of details.

Told by the investigating officer who spent years tracking her down until he finally caught her and gave her a kiss on the cheek as he'd joked with his fellow officers her would if he got her. Read it, it's a rollercoaster of a book giving new insight. Worth the price for me and for anyone with above average interest in the topic.
