The Bone Thief’s Tale was one of the best reads this year for me. The perfect book to snuggle on the couch with a warm blanket and a hot cup of tea.

It is the story of the young bone thief Lynne, who has a contract to steal magical bones for the bone queen. She is brave and fears nothing in the underworld, where she lives. Reckless and sometimes a little bit irrational, she gets herself in trouble by losing a bone in the topworld, where she goes once a year to sneak around and spy on a mysterious handsome man. To save herself she makes a deal with the deadly blood queen. The queen sends Lynne to the topworld. In 99 days, she has to bring back the bone, a book and a kiss. The downside? She can’t talk and she knows nothing about the world above. Also, the good-looking guy she was watching every year has her bone.

Rio is a gang leader in Chicago and runs his business with a ruthless hand. His goal is to get back at his enemies and when Lynne shows up at his doorsteps, he sees all his dreams come true. With her abilities and his brilliant mind, there is nothing he can’t accomplish.

I really liked the dual POV and the strong voices of the characters. It made them so lovable and has you root for them from the very beginning. The slow burning love story between the two and the obstacles they have to face, makes The Bone Thief’s Tale such a fun read. A few unexpected plot twists and all these lovable side characters fill the story with fun and excitement up to the last page.

I am really looking forward to book two!!

Grundsätzlich hatte ich Spaß beim Lesen und ich würde auch die Fortsetzung lesen, wenn eine kommt.

Meinen persönlichen Geschmack trifft es zwar nicht zu 100% aber es war definitiv eine Willkommene Abwechslung zu meinen sonst eher ernsten/tragischen Thrillern und Horrorromanen. Die (an einen Jugendroman erinnernde) Romanze hat mich persönlich überhaupt nicht angesprochen und manchmal habe ich mir deswegen mit der Handfläche auf die Stirn geklopft :)
Die Handlung hat ein gutes Tempo und schreitet stetig voran, die Schauplätze sind gut erklärt.
Zwischenmenschliche Beziehungen sind nicht allzu komplex, simpel vernetzt, man behält den Überblick.
Manchmal gab es "lustige" Momente die mir für die Situation unpassend erschienen und die Spannung rausgenommen haben. Dies könnte für manche Leser durchaus Positiv sein, meins ist es nicht.

In der gebundenen Version die ich gekauft habe waren noch einige Rechtschreib- und Tippfehler.
Das hat mich beim Lesen nicht gestört, ist aber natürlich aufgefallen und sollte in dieser Masse nicht vorkommen.

Ich sehe viel Potenzial für eine Fortsetzung und bin gespannt wie sich die Autorin noch entwickelt, sie hat auf jeden Fall einen eigenen Stil.

Highly recommend reading this book! I kept seeing tiktoks about it and have been waiting for the release and I must say: it was worth the wait and fully delivered. The banter, the character dynamics, the sexual tension. Just *chef's kiss*. Can't wait for book 2.

I loved it ! At first I was skeptical, but it was an awesome book. The writing is sooo refreshing, cocky and good. The story was very unique and had a very interesting concept of hell. The MC was so cool and I loved her. I loved that she dared to say and do anything she wanted. AND RIO. What a hottie and interesting man with (finally) some brain ! I'm really not into that mafia/gang stuff, but I didn't mind it here. So if you're interested in reading an strangers(to partners)to lovers with many unique characters and a whole new concept of hell, this is it. There are cute and interesting creatures, witches with their own courts in hell, the people who live in this hell with a new and fascinating hierarchy and order and individual humans.
However there was something missing for me. The specific SOMETHING I can't bring to words. I REALLY liked it anyways and I can imagine myself reading it again.

This book has tons of potential, but sadly I think it should have gone through a couple more editing rounds before publishing.

But if I look past the issues, and I did because I refuse to DNF anything, I actually really liked this book. It’ll give you emotional whiplash, so be prepared for that haha. The drama, the angst, the smexual tension.. oh boy. It was a rollercoaster.

Lynne, the protagonist of the story broke the contract with the bone queen and now her soul is at stake. She must find the way to get back the bone. Every-time she meets Rio in the another realm, she feels an invisible thread connecting her to that realm. But now she seek the help of the Bone Queen’s sister. She asks her to fulfil her three requirements to get her work done. But one of the Blood Queen’s requirement not only draws a fine line between truth and false. It also connects her more deeply with that realm and Rio’s soul. Will she figure out the mystery of the invisible thread? Will she have to sacrifice her soul for breaking the rules of contract? Will love defeat death?

The intricate woven mystery keeps the readers at edge and such a brilliant world build with an intriguing characters. I can’t wait to read next book in series.

It was a good read so long as you don't mind every other skulling word replaced by a variation of skull. Skullhole was a particularly brain scratching variation, in my opinion. All in all, the story and the characters made this a worth while read. Even as a retelling it maintained it's own identity. The inspiration is clear but it never feels like a copy and has its own tale to tell. A great job is done in respect to adding twist and turns to the story. Though they were easily predictable, I still found the execution enjoyable.
