1🌶️Queen of Roses is a retelling of the story of King Arthur/Camelot and the quest for Excalibur with a loose, dark, fae twist to it. The writing was captivating and the world-building was done beautifully.The story is about Morgan, Athur's sister. Right at the beginning we learn that there is strong racism against fae and everyone who has a drop of fae blood running through their veins. She is also going through lots of ugly things, thanks to the men in her life. She was taken advantage of abused , humiliated and SAed.Arthur, Morgan’s fully human half brother is a cruel and vindictive king who sits on the throne instead of her. He distrusts everyone, even her and sends her on a seemingly impossible journey to retrieve a legendary sword along with two murderous bodyguards.One of those bodyguards is Kairos Draven, he is super hot and has a sarcastic, witty personality. Kairos is dangerous, cold, and on a mission. He is the captain of the royal guards and has a dark past. A bit of it is uncovered in the later parts of the book.There is a romantic plot but it is a turtle speed slow burn so I am looking forward to this in the next book, hopefully. The spice level is really modest, but we are promised much more in the second book.I loved that we get to see more of this world on their quest. It is interesting to get to explore this world together with the FMC who never went beyond the borders of Camelot.I can't wait to read the next book after the somewhat cryptic cliffhanger at the end of this book.„I was born to be a queen. But even queens could be set aside and forgotten. Or worse. Remembered but relegated to shadows. „“Whatever might have happened to you, you’re choosing to fight back. I don’t see how that’s a bad thing. All of life is a fight. There’s no point in avoiding it.”

After a streak of abandoning books, I finally found one that gripped me from the get-go! "Queen of Roses" delves into the Arthurian saga with a fresh twist, focusing on Morgan, Arthur's sister, who navigates life in the shadows of Camelot. Her Fae heritage adds depth to her character as she grapples with rejection. Arthur, depicted as a compelling villain, adds tension to the narrative. When Arthur dispatches Morgan on a quest with the mysterious guard Kairos Daven, the plot thickens. Despite Kairos being the main male character, the absence of an overt romantic relationship adds allure, leaving room for a slow-burn dynamic that keeps readers intrigued. The gradual development of both characters is a highlight, especially as Morgan's growth unfolds. Beware the cliffhanger ending, but it only heightens the anticipation for book 2! Can't wait to delve deeper into this captivating world.

Queen of Roses is an interesting take on Arthurian legend. The story is about Morgan, Athur's sister. From the beginning we learn that not all is well in Camelot. There is strong racism against the fae/ half fae and food shortages create unrest outside of the castle.

The story starts a bit slow as it starts with a flashack to when the FMC was about 5 years old. It is only after the hunt that the story goes faster. From there I really flew through the story, I couldn't put the book down. There is a romantic plot but it is slow burn so I am looking forward to this in the next book, hopefully. I loved that we get to see more of this world on the quest that they go on. It is interesting to get to explore this world together with the FMC who never went beyond the borders of Camelot.

I can't wait to read the next book after the somewhat cryptic events at the end of this book.

Highlight. Okay, wow! Ich weiß nicht, wann ich das letzte Mal so ein gutes Fantasybuch gelesen habe, das mich direkt in den Bann gezogen hat. Queen of Roses ist der erste Band von (bisher) vier - und ich muss unbedingt weiterlesen! (Die Bücher gibt es -derzeit- nur auf Englisch!)

Zum Inhalt: In dieser Arthur-Saga-Neuerzählung erleben wir die Ereignisse rund um Camelot und dem König Arthur, der alles andere als rechtschaffend ist, aus der Sicht seiner Schwester Morgane. (Wobei ich hier auch anmerken muss, dass sich das Buch bis auf gewisse Namen wie Camelot, Arthur, Lancelet, Merlin etc. auch ohne Arthur-Saga-Bezug sehr gut lesen lässt.) Als Halb-Fae lebt Morgane ihr Leben als geächtete Prinzessin und nimmt sogar regelmäßig Medizin zu sich, um mögliche Fae-Züge wie z.B. Magie zu unterdrücken. Als ihr Bruder sie dann auf eine Reise in die Ruinen des alten Faelandes Valtain schickt, um ein mystisches Schwert zu finden, begleitet sie ausgerechnet der neue Captain der königlichen Wache, doch er ist nicht der, für den er sich ausgibt…

Ich habe dieses Buch in zwei Tagen verschlungen und ich bin eine - vergleichsweise - wirklich langsame Leserin. Ich kann dieses Buch jedem ans Herz legen, der für (Medieval) Fantasy, Fae und Enemies-to-Lovers schwärmt. (Aber Vorsicht! Achtet bitte auf Triggerwarnungen. Einige Stellen haben es in sich!)

I really enjoyed this book! I would definitely recommend it to those who love fantasy! The world building is wonderful and extremely in-depth. The characters are well-written and I love the LGBTQ+ representation! There were a few small typos however these did not detract from the amazing storytelling! Note to parents: This novel does have inappropriate scenes so I would only recommend it to adults who love dark fantasy romance! Already bought the second book and I'm so excited to start reading it!

Morgan Pendragon is rumoured to have fae blood and right from her childhood is forced to supress any signs of being fae. She isn't even made queen of Camelot when she is the rightful heir. On her brother, King Arthur's order, she sets out on a quest to find a deadly weapon with none other than our mmc, the mysterious Kairos Draven.

-Arthurian legend is something new to me so I didn't know what to expect while diving into this.
-The pacing was very slow but I liked how the author took her time for world building.
-Draven is an intriguing character and I'm dying to know more about him.
-There was next to no romance between the fmc and mmc, but as a lover of a good slow burn it only left me wanting more and I cannot wait to see more of them.
