Theoretically Franny and Chance compliment each other perfectly, a marriage of convenience would be the perfect solution for them, but both want to be loved for who they really are, not for their title or money. Both their fathers have placed a heavy burden upon their shoulders: Chance has to keep his heritage afloat despite the debts and decay his father left him and Franny is threatened to be disowned if she doesn't land an aristocrat title her father has a craving for.
Fortunately there is so much love between them, they find the courage to overcome their doubts, give their warden Kat a loving home and find the HEA they deserve.

The Governess Gamble is a holiday-themed novella connected the Duchess Society series. Franny and Chance are both likeable and relatable and I thoroughly enjoyed their quick and passionate romnace. With lots of heart and an adorable girl, this is a great read to get into the Christmas spirit.
I received an ARC through Hidden Gems and am leaving this review voluntarily and honestly.

Tracy Sumner has crafted a delightful and wonderful Christmas adventure in *The Governess Gamble*, part of her Duchess Society series. As someone who eagerly anticipates each new installment, I love how this series centers around amazing women who form a club to take control of their lives and help other potential ladies navigate the tricky waters of marriage and avoid bad choices. The ladies of the Duchess Society are captivating, and I think you’ll enjoy them as much as I do!

In this novella, Francine Shaw, an American heiress, finds herself shipped to England after a scandal in the States. Her wealthy father arranges a marriage for her as a fresh start, but Francine’s independent spirit leads her to take a governess position instead. She ends up working for Chance Allerton, a roguish Viscount who has just inherited a title, a ward, and all the responsibilities that come with it. The attraction between them is immediate, leading to a steamy encounter that complicates matters.

Francine, or Franny, is a witty, clever, and at times delightfully vulnerable heroine. Her character is wonderfully complex and relatable, making her a standout in this explicitly steamy romance. Chance, despite his rakish reputation, is revealed to have a tender heart and secretly desires to marry for love. Their story, filled with sizzling chemistry and holiday charm, is both engaging and heartwarming.

If you enjoy steamy, well-developed characters and a festive romance, *The Governess Gamble* is a must-read. I can’t wait to dive into more of this series.

Independent, she takes a governess position while her father is away with a roguish Viscount who just inherited the title, a ward, and all that goes with it. Discovering they have common interests, there is an immediate attraction resulting in an encounter. Not wanting to be further tied down, her rich dowry is enticing to a struggling but handsome and charming rogue. Despite complications in this explicitly steamy romance, it eventually works out. Interesting story but not for everyone.
