It is an interesting story about a newborn vampire who has memory loss about her creation or anything before that.

There are some new things in this book by which it distances itself from other similar genre books.

For example, yes, they go to school, but no, it is not mandatory. Yes, you shall not kill but just not unnecessarily. If it's justified... well, good for you then.
The last one gives you a new perspective of the viewpoint of vampires. They are strong and almost killing machines, and if you get on the nerve of the wrong vampire, you're about to meet your end... maybe.
So it is really refreshing.

What's also refreshing is the dynamic between FMC and MMC.
I won't go into detail about their exact relation (just read the book), but I really love it, that Leonora does what she wants. And if Hayes disagrees, she does it anyway.

Leonora is stronger than him, which is worth a complete star for this recension.

In general, the girl gets new powers and is slightly uncomfortable or overwhelmed with it and is acting shy and unsure and all kinds of annoying. At least for me.
Please don't get me wrong, if you get new powers and you do not know how they work, yes, a little caution is not a bad idea. But please don't turn into a doormat. The guy is always provoking and taunting her, and in so many books, it just gets on my last nerve. And in the end, it doesn't matter what he said, because he's really handsome and 6'5 with tattoos and a scent to die for... yes, girl, show me your nonexistent backbone.

But here it is, thank god, not the case. Because Leonora is a different kind of vampire, she has the upper hand, and do we not all love a man who can plead?

I love her strong character and determination towards finding answers about her memory loss. Regardless of the consequences.

5 stars, and I look forward to reading part 2.

Leonora who was recently changed into a vampire is on a mission to find out who murdered her and remember her past.

This book is exciting and spicy and has a deep sense of mystery.

If you enjoy dark academia, vampires, found family, blood bonds, enemies to lovers, then you will love this book!

The beginning immediately made me curious.
The world-building is amazing. I really love all the details in the description of the castle and how it works there. It has vibes of Vampire Academy.
I love how the trope forced proximity is carried out. Leonora and Hayes have first a true hate/love relationship. The tension is big.
I also enjoyed all the other tropes that are really well written.
Their is mystery around the death of Leonora. Little by little you find out more about what happened.
I don't like the cliffhanger. The reason for that is that I have to know what happens next.

There were a few things that left me confused, but ultimately I’m interested in reading more of the series. I did find it to be very predictable. The wolf, the mother, the murderer all easily known.

So I found this book a 70/30.
I was really intrigued with the story, I really like the no nonsense attitude the FMC Leonora had while having no memory of her life as a mortal and the general banter and attitude she had towards the MMC Hayes who was her blood mate even though they were both kind of annoyed to be so attracted to each other.
The things I struggled with this book was that it was a little slow. It needed to be a slow burn as this is a whodunnit, I felt it just needed to move away from the I don’t know anything aspect and concentrate more on what was happening to the vampires around them rather than that only really having a sentence dedicated to it.
I also found the sudden jump from hayes not wanting anything to do with Leonora to suddenly being totally open with her came a little out the blue I actually re-read the page.
However!!! Stick with it, by the end of this book it was alllllll happening, everything was coming together nicely, the plot, the characters, the writing and I have already pre-ordered the second book so I can find out what happens next!
I have read books on a cliffhanger before and just not bothered if I didn’t like the 1st book so just be patient because if like me you find your interest in this book dwindling a little, by the third section of it, it really does get better and flows better.

This book grabbed me from the very first page, lots of twists and turns to grip you and keep you reading. Love that it ends with a shocking scene that has you salivating for the next book.
