On These Black Sands: A Slow Burn Romantic Fantasy (Aisling Sea Book 1) Kindle Edition
In a world of lies and betrayal, trust can be dangerous and alliances can turn deadly.
Declan’s years as captain have earned him both a ruthless reputation and a slew of enemies. Add in the Council which lords over the pirates and the painful past that haunts him, and he’d do anything to be free of these seas–even search for a legendary dagger with the power to grant victory to the one who wields it.
When a chance stop back home brings him the information he needs to finally find the blade, nothing will stop him from claiming it for himself.
Until an irritating Council heir stows away on his ship…
Despite his crew’s pleas, Declan can’t shake his protective nature and agrees to see her safely to the next port. But when she turns out to be the key to his quest, he’ll have to set aside his hatred for her and her family… or throw away his one chance at freedom.
On These Black Sands is the first book in a romantic fantasy trilogy, pulling you into a unique world of heart-rending betrayal, deadly legends, and swoon-worthy love. This pirate adventure offers political intrigue with a side of slow-burn romance between a reluctant hero and the woman who could save him…if she doesn’t wreck him first.

The book has everything. Some chapters are intense, some are fun, some are heartbreaking, some are heartwarming etc. The smirks, the sarcasm, the tension. AAAH! It's all written so well. I must admit that the author has got a lot of talent.
I am definitely team Declan. I will always pick the morally grey character with a dark past over the sweet cinnamon roll sidekick. I am sorry Tommy but I still love you. Aoife is the badass but awkward one and I am all for it.
There is much more that hasn't been revealed yet so I am waiting patiently for the next books. I think this is enough for now because I don't want to spoil it for you all. I hope that I have hyped it up enough to go get this book.

I loved the world described here. And obviously, I loved the pirate life. I fell in love with the characters easily. They were diverse and rich and so so adorable! Aoife Cascade and Declan McCallagh had me engaged the entire time. They showed different forms of bravery and love, that I can’t get enough of!!!
And the banter between these two, OMG! So many of my favorite tropes in one beautiful setting…. It’s the best!
I found so many quotes I loved:
He laughed in return, a pleasant sound, hearty and full, not at all similar to the tinkling bell-like laughs she’d heard all her life. “I am the kind of person—”... “—who doesn’t give his name to just any stranger he meets.”
She huffed. “That isn’t exactly polite, is it?”
“Who said I was one for politeness?"
"And these are the sleeping quarters.”
She peered in through the open door before looking back at him.
“It’s so small,” she said.
“Not something any man likes to hear from a lady, miss.”
"Looking into her eyes felt like returning to the home he desperately missed. And the shock of that realization threatened to suffocate him, ripping the breath from his lungs."
"We weren't meant to be alone. We weren't meant for solitude. But what's the point of being among people if you can never be comfortable. Be yourself."
I am desperately waiting for the sequel right now!!!

I enjoyed reading this book sooo much! I was in a massive reading slump and it pulled me right out of it.
The characters are so well written and so relatable. They seem like real people. Declan is definitely book boyfriend material. Haha!
The world building was the perfect amount for me. And the writing?! Oh my goodness, the writing! It’s so good! The author truly has a gift.
Looking forward to reading book two!
Oh so good! I think people who read Dark Shores from Danielle L Jensen would like it very much. Pirates! Of course it is worth it!
I expected there to be more fantasy elements, but there was little mention (although the Fae do play a large part in the overall plot, we don’t see much or hear much of them) but that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
The only negative thing I have to say about this book, is I didn’t enjoy the POV changes all too much. While I didn’t mind the switching between Aoife and Declan, it became a bit boring on the times it switched to Cait, but that didn’t happen many times which is good.
The book ended on a cliffhanger which immediately sent me back to Amazon to purchase the part 2, not realising that there’s also a book 3 coming later this year which I’m already excited for, despite not starting the second yet!
Anyway, off to read the next in the series. Thank you for a delightful read. 🤩🤩🤩
