Publisher's Summary

Now with a brand new afterword to mark the 20th anniversary of a beloved cult classic! The number one New York Times best-selling coming-of-age story that takes a sometimes heartbreaking, often hysterical, and always honest look at high school in all its glory. Also a major motion picture starring Logan Lerman and Emma Watson, The Perks of Being a Wallflower is a funny, touching, and haunting modern classic.

The critically acclaimed debut novel from Stephen Chbosky, Perks follows observant "wallflower" Charlie as he charts a course through the strange world between adolescence and adulthood. First dates, family drama, and new friends. Sex, drugs, and The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Devastating loss, young love, and life on the fringes. Caught between trying to live his life and trying to run from it, Charlie must learn to navigate those wild and poignant roller-coaster days known as growing up.

A number one New York Times best seller for more than a year, an American Library Association Best Book for Young Adults (2000) and Best Book for Reluctant Readers (2000), and with millions of copies in print, this novel for teens (or "wallflowers" of more-advanced age) will make you laugh, cry, and perhaps feel nostalgic for those moments when you, too, tiptoed onto the dance floor of life.

Featured Article: The Best Young Adult Audiobooks For Women Of All Ages

Many people equate "growing up" with "growing serious." But while interests may change over time, age does not have to be the deciding factor in what games you play, movies, or books you enjoy. Young adult novels are the perfect example of this. Though written with a teenage audience in mind, women of all ages are sure to enjoy the genre’s hallmarks: strong yet flawed characters, heartbreaking twists and turns, romance, and drama.

An amazing English assignment

I really loved how this book was just a boy writing letters to a random stranger about his first year of high school and he writes about his experiences and how he overcomes things from his past and present. I would recommend this book to anyone however, mainly teenagers, who are called different.

The end

Such a great story I love the way it is told through letters to this anonymous person. The ending is sad and beautiful in a weird way. Don’t want to give too much but overall happy that I’ve read this book

one of my new favorite books!

I'm not sure if it's because it's the fact that it was well written or that the story is so relatable, but I loved this and will most likely read again soon.

Growing pains

Charlie is a teenager who has just started high school. The reader, Noah Galvin does such a great job of Charlie’s voice; it really feels like one is listening to Charlie recounting the stories in person.

This is the story of Charlie, struggling with loss and love, family and school, triumph and defeat, insane and inane etc. Through a series of letters to an undisclosed recipient, he reveals his thoughts, emotions and experiences.
