First, that's the first time an author's note has made me cry! As a past owner of a corgi cross, even before it was confirmed that wobble was one, I recognised him as such 😍

Narration note - this is narrated in a style that's common in America and I assume is an intentional choice. Basically it's a really flat monotone delivery. I actually found myself listening for the breath in the first minute or so because I thought it was was AI! I hate this style of narration but I guess others like it? Anyway, the story was good enough that I persevered through my initial distaste and eventually I was into the story enough that stopped noticing it.

Story is lovely, interesting and focused. In a full novel, this would basically be act one. It serves as a good introduction to a new world with focus on characters and tempting glimpses of the wider world history and forces at work.

I'm pleased to hear that more stories with these characters are planned but I may opt to go the standard book route if the narration choice is the same in the next one.

Make sure to read book one first as this has spoilers for that scattered through out. It's actually to this book's credit that there are spoilers as because the last book's events have consequences and affect characterisation nicely in this book.

it's short, it's punchy, the characters are good, the narrative has twists and turns. I had a great time with this one.

this book went places. it was fun. I was probably too old to properly appreciate it, but I was entertained the whole way through, which is more than I can say for a lot of middle grade books.

I was absolutely convinced this book would never come out, and if it *did*, I was sure there was no way it'd be anywhere near as good as the first.

Well. I was wrong. I'm extremely happy to be wrong. Red Side Story was good! One of Jasper's better books, which is saying something. The story is riveting right up until the end. The characters continue to develop in interesting ways. The only thing I'm a little iffy on is the new narrator, who's okay. Not as good as the original narrator for Shades. Other than that, highly recommended.

less innovative than Grand Theft Astro but still really fun. Scott's on a bit of a roll when it comes to crafting fun, accessable world's with straight forward characters and a tight narrative

Narrator's Welsh accent was learned in Jamaica!

So in Googling to verify that 'yes, this narrator is not native to any part of Wales' I discovered she's recently passed.
In the spirit of of not speaking ill of the dead, I shall simply say that if you're from the UK/Ireland and have actually heard a real Welsh accent then you will possibly struggle to listen to this. I winced. Quite a lot.
