Resumen del Editor
Twins David and Dennis Pischke's lives change forever when their father dies and a man damaged by the war arrives at their farm near the isolated town of Moosehorn, Manitoba. Boleslaw Domko quickly works his way into their lives and their mother's bed.
Where Children Run opens with one of their earliest memories - the day Domko throws their infant stepsister against the wall. In this firsthand account, the twins recall years of neglect, starvation, and enslavement; horrific beatings and candlelit nights spent in the nearby St. Thomas Lutheran Church. Neighbors intervene, but their efforts provide only temporary relief as the children's mother - also living in fear - refuses to press charges.
The brothers vow that if they survive, they will someday expose their tormentor and members of their mother's religious organization who turned a blind eye to their suffering. This is their story - told with stark honesty and in heart-wrenching detail.
Where Children Run is a timeless, unforgettable audiobook about survival, a powerful testament to the strength and adaptability of the human spirit.
Contains mature themes.

No electricity, no family, no connection to the outside world. For eight years, Cooper and his young daughter, Finch, have lived in isolation in a remote cabin in the northern Appalachian woods. And that's exactly the way Cooper wants it, because he's got a lot to hide. Finch has been raised on the books filling the cabin’s shelves and the beautiful but brutal code of life in the wilderness. In the late 1960s, riding the crest of the counterculture movement, Cea's family left a comfortable existence in California to live off the land in the Canadian wilderness. But unlike most commune dwellers of the time, the Persons weren't trying to build a new society - they wanted to escape civilization altogether. Led by Cea's grandfather Dick, they lived a pot-smoking, free-loving, clothing-optional life under a canvas tipi without running water, electricity, or heat for the bitter winters.

The police in Jersey County, Illinois, accepted Paula Sims' story of a masked kidnapper who snatched her baby girl, Lorelei, from her bassinet. Three years later, her second newborn daughter suffered an identical fate - and this time the police were unable to stop searching until they had discovered the whole horrifying truth. This is the full terrifying story of twisted sexuality and hate seething below the surface of a seemingly normal family and of the massive investigation and nerve-shattering trial that made the unthinkable a reality.

Historia
When a 70-year-old woman finds a five-year-old girl abandoned on her doorstep, she is thrust into a sorrowful past that can only be conquered with the help of the girl who opened her memory - the very girl she is trying to save. The death of a teenage Amish girl in a cornfield looks like an accident, but sheriff Serenity Adams suspects foul play. To solve the murder, she must investigate the nearby Amish community with the help of a man who was shunned years ago. At first glance, the case seems obvious. The poor girl was probably accidently shot during hunting season, but when the elders of the Amish community and even the girl's parents react with uncaring subdued behavior, Serenity becomes suspicious.

In September 2007, Elissa Wall, the star witness against polygamous sect leader Warren Jeffs, gave captivating testimony of how Jeffs forced her to marry her first cousin at age 14. This harrowing account proved to be the most compelling evidence against Jeffs, showing the harsh realities of this closed community and the lengths to which Jeffs went in order to control the sect's women. Now, in this courageous memoir, Wall tells the incredible story of how she emerged from the confines of the Fundamentalist Church of Latter Day Saints and helped bring one of America's most notorious criminals to justice.

The souls of the twins stayed STRONG.
It is always sad to hear about people, especially children, being tortured. This factual story is difficult to listen to, I feel that the knowledge this stuff happened, and is still happening, is something we all need. We can't hide from it, nor should we. We need to be aware of it, so that we can help those that suffer from physical, mental and emotional abuse.
This book was wonderfully written.
I appreciate the author's note. It was definitely a plus to hear how the family got on after the horrible things they endured.

The overall bravery of the twins to survive the brutal child abuse.
The abuse the stepfather inflicted on the step children, and their mother's failure to protect her children from the brutal child abuse.

Heartbreaking reality
What a wonderful and heartbreaking story of strength and suffering. I cried and I laughed and then I cried some more. A Very sobering history that makes me appreciate what I have.

Heartbreaking
This story is very well written. I don’t know how children survive such abuse. The mother is almost as bad as her husband for allowing this to continue. Escape from the stepfather was impossible. Authorities were of no help, which led to more torture and pain. Thank God the children survived and moved on to a normal life, but not without scares and nightmares. Definitely will keep you wanting to hear more. I had cried and laughed with this amazing story, and can’t believe this actually happens to families. God bless the children.

wow
I was in shock the whole book. I found myself so affected , sad and angry for the children even after so many years. Occasionally I felt the narrator sounded too chipper for the situation but overall she has a voice and style that makes all the abuse possible to get through. Such an amzing tragic yet inspiring story.

Very sad story
I grimaced and could barely finish certain parts of this story BUT the twins’ determination is so admirable I couldn’t help but continue to listen.

I cannot read this book any longer.
My reason is just how... can someone even call themselves a parent after what they allow their children to go through. The mother is beyond pathetic to me, wouldn't even take her own children to the doctor because she was afraid to be accused of things? At this point the kids were excited to be in foster care ,and she didn't even allow them that because she "changed her mind"??! I have read books similar, but maybe I just couldn't take it anymore. It's heartbreaking, so very sad, so awful. Makes me hate humans or realize how horrible people can be.

The feelings it gave me.
Amazing book was written and read perfectly! I could feel my heart race as if I was with these children as they lived the nightmare they did.
