I'm barely proficient with technology. I can usually get things done, but it always takes a while. This book makes me wish I was in the industry! It's technical but even I could understand it. It is engaging & entertaining.

The voice actor does an excellent job of taking what could have been a dry subject & keep your attention.

First of all let me say that I have great respect for the author's non-fiction work. They are inspired to say the least. When I heard he had a novel, I was excited to listen. I am a huge fan of space/military fantasies, so this seemed right up my alley.

I struggled from the beginning. It was chapter 29 or so before I even knew what the book was about. The use of sounds for dramatic effect was not only not effective, it was distracting at least & annoying at worst. The characters, who were supposedly chosen in the story for their professional prowess in their perspective fields were anything but professional, they acted like immature middle schoolers.

The level of detail he uses in his books that is appropriate in the author's non-fiction works, but creates lengthy periods of noise in this novel. I found myself fast forwarding through several sections. If it doesn't add to the story, it takes away from it. Did your editor not suggest this? Did the producer not say that these sections would cause the listener to zone out & perhaps miss your intended message?

To the voice actor. I'm not sure how much creative authority you were given, if little, you should have passed. If you were given freedom... you still should have passed. The whining persona of pretty much every character basically killed the story. I continually had to turn you off. I just couldn't stand to listen. Out of respect for the author's other work, I gutted it out & finally finished this awful story.

Mr. Heifer, if you are going to attempt this sort of work in the future, I hope you'll take the time to reflect on just how poor this one turned out. I get it, you're hoping to reach readers/listeners who would not pick up a Supernatural. But, this is not going to do it.

I gave 2 stars because I like the author & respect how much work went into writing this (same with the voice actor). But you won't get me again. that was 13+ hours of my life I'll never get back.

A very well written book! great characters and totally believable. There is enough action to be quite engaging with enough background data to not make it seem absurd. An excellent book.

Ray Porter - I first listened to him in the Bobverse. The first couple of books were enjoyable & he was entertaining & funny. After that they became redundant & boring. I tried listened to several other books he narrated, I'm not sure I completed a single one. Many seemed to be vulgar & perverse just to be vulgar & perverse. I ALMOST didn't download this book when I saw he was the narrator, that would have been a mistake. He is at the top of his game in this book. We'll done!

B.V. Larson & (of course) Mark Boyett are awesome! I've listened to many of the books in this series, but forgot that they actually made me laugh out loud. Good 'ol McGill. Download it! You'll like it.
