Historia
The year was 1917. As a war raged across the world, young American women flocked to work, painting watches, clocks, and military dials with a special luminous substance made from radium. It was a fun job, lucrative and glamorous - the girls themselves shone brightly in the dark, covered head to toe in the dust from the paint. They were the radium girls. As the years passed, the women began to suffer from mysterious and crippling illnesses.

it was good to read
Revisado: 06-27-24
but, the narrator was in the style of a news reporter. the cadence wasn't really my favorite. it wasn't bad enough to stop me. The book is an important read and one I'm glad I did.

Historia
Laurence Rees has spent 25 years meeting the survivors and perpetrators of the Third Reich and the Holocaust. In this sweeping history, he combines this testimony with the latest academic research to investigate how history's greatest crime was possible. Rees argues that while hatred of the Jews was at the epicenter of Nazi thinking, we cannot fully understand the Holocaust without considering Nazi plans to kill millions of non-Jews as well.

Not the best one but not bad
Revisado: 02-18-21
The information is good, the sources solid, and the book decently written, but honestly I didn’t hear any “new” information that would make it stand out.
My biggest complaint was the narration. That’s not to say he was bad, but he’s very clearly American and the German words and names are very flat and kind of cringe.
I would recommend Ravensbruck (also available on audible) if you would like something more in depth one a singular camp and the narrator does a much better job on the French/German/Russian words.

In KL, Wachsmann fills this glaring gap in our understanding. He not only synthesizes a new generation of scholarly work, much of it untranslated and unknown outside of Germany, but also presents startling revelations, based on many years of archival research, about the functioning and scope of the camp system.

Super Informative

But! Can be VERY dry. I enjoyed it, but if you want something with a bit more flavor try Ravensbrük (don’t know the author off hand but it’s a reddish/pink cover and fem narrator with a flawless accent.)

Historia
Located off a desolate stretch of Interstate 50, Desperation, Nevada, has few connections with the rest of the world. It is a place, though, where the seams between worlds are thin. And it is a place where several travelers are abducted by Collie Entragian, the maniacal police officer of Desperation. Entragian uses various ploys for the abductions, from an arrest for drug possession to "rescuing" a family from a nonexistent gunman.

Historia
They live in shadows - deep in the forest, late in the night, in the dark recesses of our minds. They're spoken of in stories and superstitions, relics of an unenlightened age, old wives' tales, passed down through generations. Yet no matter how wary and jaded we have become, as individuals or as a society, a part of us remains vulnerable to them: werewolves and wendigos, poltergeists and vampires, angry elves and vengeful spirits.
