Historia
When Hazel Sharp, daughter of Mirror Lake’s longtime local detective, unexpectedly inherits her childhood home, she’s warily drawn back to the town—and people—she left behind almost a decade earlier. But Hazel’s not the only relic of the past to return: a drought has descended on the region, and as the water level in the lake drops, long-hidden secrets begin to emerge…including evidence that may help finally explain the mystery of her mother’s disappearance.

Enjoyable listen but you’ll likely figure it out before the end
Revisado: 07-31-24
The first novel I read by this author was The Last House Guest. I had purchase that book on a whim before a flight where I needed something to read. I had never heard of the author at that time and absolutely loved that book. Since then I’ve read The Only Survivors and now Daughter of Mine. Mostly I read each of those because of how much I enjoyed LHG. I’ve accepted at this point I probably won’t ever be as enthralled as I was with LHG but each of her books are fun and have a lot of twists.

Afterward, Bruce tells Mercer that he has stumbled upon an incredible story. Mercer desperately needs an idea for her next novel, and Bruce now has one. Maybe grab the paper version to avoid narration
Revisado: 05-29-24
Story wise I think this is as good as the first two of the series. This is the first of this series i tried the audio version and Whoopi’s narration is sort of distracting to me. She reads it in a way I would describe as how you read a bed time story to your kid. It is frustrating to listen to because of this. But again the story and the actual book itself is still very good I’d just maybe opt not to do the audio version.

Narration is superb
Revisado: 04-25-24
This is the first book I have listened to by this narrator and he did an amazing job right from the start I couldn’t stop listening. Nice touch as well using a Scottish narrator for this book. The story itself isn’t really anything you haven’t seen before, two unlikely people forming an unlikely friendship/bond. However it is really well written and shines a light on a part of history that isn’t very well taught or understood, at least in the US.

Ages ago, sorcerers of unmatched power sundered a world into four realms—sky, stone, fire, and water—then vanished. Over time, magicians learned to work spells only in their own realms and forgot the others. Now only the few who have survived the Labyrinth and crossed the Death Gate know of the presence of all four realms—and even they have yet to unravel the mysteries of their severed world. . . .

Historia
A natural storyteller and raconteur in his own right - just listen to Paddle Your Own Canoe and Gumption - actor, comedian, carpenter, and all-around manly man Nick Offerman (Parks and Recreation) brings his distinctive baritone and a fine-tuned comic versatility to Twain's writing. In a knockout performance, he doesn't so much as read Twain's words as he does rejoice in them, delighting in the hijinks of Tom - whom he lovingly refers to as a "great scam artist" and "true American hero".

Historia
Viv's career with the notorious mercenary company Rackam's Ravens isn't going as planned. Wounded during the hunt for a powerful necromancer, she's packed off against her will to recuperate in the sleepy beach town of Murk—so far from the action that she worries she'll never be able to return to it. What's a thwarted soldier of fortune to do? Spending her hours at a beleaguered bookshop in the company of its foul-mouthed proprietor is the last thing Viv would have predicted, but it may be both exactly what she needs and the seed of changes she couldn't possibly imagine.

Great stories
Revisado: 11-12-23
Like with any anthology, some of the stories here are better than others. They also save the best two, or at least the two I was most looking forward to when I purchased the book, until the very end. My only gripe here is the narrator of the third story, Homestead, is legitimately not a good narrator. I’ve seen other reviewers mention it too but she has this weird way of putting too much emphasis on the final word of each sentence. don’t know how else to describe it but you’ll see what I mean if you give this a listen. If you can just make it through that one story with her the rest have great narrators.

Historia
In a small back alley of Tokyo, there is a café that has been serving carefully brewed coffee for more than 100 years. Local legend says that this shop offers something else besides coffee - the chance to travel back in time. Over the course of one summer, four customers visit the café in the hopes of making that journey. But time travel isn’t so simple, and there are rules that must be followed. Most important, the trip can last only as long as it takes for the coffee to get cold.

The premise wasn’t used to its full potential
Revisado: 11-12-23
I’m imaging some of the magic here may have been lost in translation but I didn’t feel like the time travel premise was used to its full potential. The time traveling also has so many rules you almost ask yourself at certain points, what’s even the point of doing it then? You’ll see what I mean on that if you end up trying this book. Overall just kind of meh on this one. Not bad, not great. The narration is good at least.
