Historia
Daphne always loved the way her fiancé Peter told their story. How they met (on a blustery day), fell in love (over an errant hat), and moved back to his lakeside hometown to begin their life together. He really was good at telling it…right up until the moment he realized he was actually in love with his childhood best friend Petra.

Story ok; narrator excellent
Revisado: 06-21-24
Julia Whelan, the narrator, makes this book. Otherwise I find it to be a very typical chick lit book. Nothing new here.

Historia
In this treasure of a book, Anna Quindlen, the best-selling novelist and columnist, reflects on what it takes to “get a life” - to live deeply every day and from your own unique self, rather than merely to exist through your days. “Knowledge of our own mortality is the greatest gift God ever gives us,” Quindlen writes, “because unless you know the clock is ticking, it is so easy to waste our days, our lives.”

Sensible advice but…
Revisado: 06-08-24
The second half (15 minutes) is an interview. I felt disappointed that the author is pushing the narrative that women are oppressed. IMO there’s absolutely nothing stopping women these days. Or even 20 years ago. Yes, it wasn’t always this way but it would be nice if people could just take the W and move on. But my comment is based on the interview. The first half was sensible advice. Like a commencement speech.

Historia
About a third of the world population suffers from an anxiety disorder, and half of Americans have had at least one traumatic experience like rape, assault, shooting, or natural disasters. Fear and anxiety are with us everywhere we go. Fear is deeply woven into our biology, culture, politics, and day to day life. We sometimes don't even know what we are afraid of. What we know for sure is that we are afraid too often. But why are we so scared? How does fear work in our brains? What is the evolutionary purpose of fear? In this book, a psychiatrist and neuroscientist answers these questions.

I enjoyed this read. It confirmed many of my beliefs but I still learned a lot. I will likely read this again to pick up anything I may have missed the first time.

This book kept me entertained. I felt like the performance made up where plot may have lacked a bit but overall I enjoyed this easy listen.

The performance was outstanding. The story was unoriginal and long for the sake of being long. My imagination was way more interesting than the actual plot. I kept trying to figure out what the twist was going to be and was disappointed when there was no twist.

A pretentious slog
Revisado: 05-29-23
Homecoming was a pretentious slog. The author tends to extend her books unnecessarily. I found myself interested in the initial mystery, but it proved to be very predictable and ultimately disappointing. I think I’m done with Kate Morton.

I liked another book by this author. She did a very nice job of narrating it except there were times when her male voice sounded female and I was slightly confused as the listener. The story was just ok - forgettable in my opinion. I didn’t care much for any of the characters. It was just ok for me.

Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

Drags…and then drags some more
Revisado: 12-24-22
My mother recommended I read this. I started out boring. I kept waiting for it to get better. It got a little better about 75% of the way through but then dragged again. I literally was surfing the internet at some points it was so boring. I really wanted to give up but I pressed on because my mom really liked it. I’m sorry I wasted my time. The narrator did nothing to spice this up either. She sounded like she was reading rather than acting it out.
