Historia
In Monterey, on the California coast, Sweet Thursday is what they call the day after Lousy Wednesday, which is one of those days that is just naturally bad. Returning to the scene of Cannery Row, the weedy lots and junk heaps and flophouses of Monterey, John Steinbeck once more brings to life the denizens of a netherworld of laughter and tears—from Fauna, new headmistress of the local brothel, to Hazel, a bum whose mother must have wanted a daughter.

Wonderful story, great narrator
Revisado: 02-19-23
This is my favorite gem of John Steinbeck, a sweet beautiful simple tale. The characters are both hilarious and great moral philosophers in an Everyman sort of way. The narrator does great justice to the varied characters and their foibles. Overall, a great listen.

Historia
In March 1865, the long and bitter War between the States is winding down. Till now, 23-year-old Simon Boudlin has evaded military duty thanks to his slight stature, youthful appearance, and utter lack of compunction about bending the truth. But following a barroom brawl in Victoria, Texas, Simon finds himself conscripted, however belatedly, into the Confederate Army. Luckily his talent with a fiddle gets him a comparatively easy position in a regimental band.

Lovely sweet story
Revisado: 05-23-21
A beautiful period piece that gives a wonderful feel for the post civil war frontier environment. Reader is well known among longtime listeners and is very competent if somewhat deadpan. But the feel of the times and the thoughts of those looking to survive and thrive in a disordered world that still has a sense of guiding morality and etiquette that reaches through all strata of society is fascinating. Enjoy!

Historia
Somewhere out beyond the edge of the universe there is a library that contains an infinite number of books, each one the story of another reality. One tells the story of your life as it is, along with another book for the other life you could have lived if you had made a different choice at any point in your life. While we all wonder how our lives might have been, what if you had the chance to go to the library and see for yourself? Would any of these other lives truly be better? In The Midnight Library, Nora Seed finds herself faced with this decision.

Historia
Seven years ago the Atargatis set off on a voyage to the Mariana Trench to film a mockumentary bringing to life ancient sea creatures of legend. It was lost at sea with all hands. Some have called it a hoax; others have called it a tragedy. Now a new crew has been assembled. But this time they're not out to entertain. Some seek to validate their life's work. Some seek the greatest hunt of all. Some seek the truth. But for the ambitious young scientist Victoria Stewart, this is a voyage to uncover the fate of the sister she lost.

Unrealistic characters
Revisado: 10-14-19
I enjoy stories about scientific discoveries for which the experts are not prepared. But I round this story to be uniformly grim, and not because of the creatures being uncovered.
All the principal characters are humorless, cutthroat, paranoid, and generally unpleasant. Event the heroine is not particularly sympathetic. On the one hand, the author assigns all of the scientist uniform disdain for the human race and its depredations on the planet. At the same time, she gives several of them a vicious sense of revenge that easily oversteps their scientific curiosity about a new life form that can't even be easily classified. No one has a sense of humor about anything. Knowledge of life-threatening information is kept hidden so that characters don't appear foolish to those around them, or so that no competitors can make off with each person's scientific discovery. The voyage is remarkably ill-prepared to deal with a predator that many on board in positions of authority are fully anticipating. This is not a voyage that I would join readily.
This is a well received author and story and perhaps I'm not attuned to current tastes. But it was pretty disappointing. I approve of the narrator who does a competent job of offering distinguishing voice characterizations.

Historia
On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

Craig Wasson is one of the best narrators out there. His accents and voices made the story come alive.
