Great characters but loses the point

I enjoyed developing these characters in my mind during the read but by the end of the book I felt that so many roads, that could have been meaningful, were left untaken. I appreciated how local it all felt — Taylor Jenkins Reid seems to have a special gift for getting into the mindset of a location. Also appreciated the allusions to her other novels. But again, at the end I felt somewhat disappointed.

Great Old Hollywood Fanfic vibes

This story was incredible and almost felt like nonfiction. I did find the voice tone changes in the read confusing at times but with how the timeline jumps around it was definitely critical to the audiobook experience. Overall, this was a refreshing take on a very popular era in history!

Another banger from Nathan Hill

I loved the Nix and couldn’t wait for his next book… and WOW! This was a beautiful rollercoaster of emotions and filled with so much incredible context for the psychology behind the characters decision making. Touched on so many real parts of a relationship while upending many tropes. I will be recommending this read to everyone!

Astounding, Funny & Sobering History Essay Series

A very important title to learn about the history of the disenfranchisement and sexism inherent in our system that has been working against women. Megan Koester and Merrill Markoe are great presenters as well who have insightful and well written essays on the topics at hand. They are also excellent comedians providing some much appreciated humor, banter and levity to break up the subject matter. They offer up two different perspectives at times that come together to really help develop the whole picture.

Would you consider the audio edition of Sklars and Stripes to be better than the print version?

There isn't a print version but it doesn't need it! The sklars dynamic is something to be experienced! Their banter-y nature and constantly building on what one brother said at an astounding pace is some of the reason I find them to be such amazing and dynamic performers unlike anything else in the comedy field.

What other book might you compare Sklars and Stripes to and why?

Why compare? Just love it all!

What about The Sklar Brothers’s performance did you like?

I think their dynamic and their earnest desire to learn more about each community they visit really shines through in this documentary. It takes a great amount of love and respect to get people to laugh with you at the local fixtures.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The moment that sticks out to me is when they went to Houston shortly after the devastation of Hurricane Harvey and also the World Series win for the Houston Astros and being genuinely curious about the recovery, visiting places that were hit hard, and able to craft very loving and uplifting jokes for the crowd to escape with. It was a very nice episode.

A really fun slice of a Fest and interviews!

Would you listen to VIP Pass: SF Sketchfest again? Why?

Yeah, there are some great jokes peppered through and I think will definitely be fun repeated listening or background content while I'm doing chores, etc.

Who was your favorite character and why?

MARIA BAMFORD and JANEANE GAROFALO! I'm very happy they got those two on there, they're comedians I really love listening to on and off stage for their unique perspectives and you don't get to hear them talk off stage all that often.

Also, the SKLAR BROTHERS! What a tour de force of comedy and they had a great scene.

What about the narrator’s performance did you like?

There's so many different narrators I don't think you can really comment on this too much.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yeah, an hour piece is such a great consumable thing.

Please make more! I'd love one from Just For Laughs, Moontower, Limestone, etc. Maybe also different types of festivals as well!

Took me a while but I remember this movie too now!

What did you like about this audiobook?

This book is such a wildy fun and fully produced soundscape of what it was like to be in a dusty trailer park in the 70s.

How has the book increased your interest in the subject matter?

I'm very glad I'm not the only one that remembers this movie. I thought I was crazy for years!

Does the author present information in a way that is interesting and insightful, and if so, how does he achieve this?

I feel like I have a deeper understanding of the mustache craze of the 70s now and I'm looking forward to it's hipster revival.

What did you find wrong about the narrator's performance?

Wrong? Wrong! Nothing is wrong, minus the few occasions I wasn't completely convinced there was genuine hair in Hamm's upper lip.

Do you have any additional comments?

This is such a wonderfully funny and peculiar story I'm glad it was really fully realized by Audible. I had to stop listening at work because I was laughing too much and was starting to get stares.
