Historia
Natural-born healer Emma Starling once had big plans for her life, but she’s lost her way. A medical school dropout, she’s come back to small-town Everton, New Hampshire, to care for her father, who is dying from a mysterious brain disease. Clive Starling has been hallucinating small animals, as well as having visions of the ghost of a long-dead naturalist, Ernest Harold Baynes, once known for letting wild animals live in his house. This ghost has been giving Clive some ideas on how to spend his final days.

In other words, you won’t be traumatized by listening to it. It’s an engaging nice story woven around a family in New Hampshire.

For this genre it was fun. Not a cozy mystery but as close as you can get in NYC I suspect!

Historia
In the late 1980s Jon Ronson was the keyboard player in the Frank Sidebottom Oh Blimey Big Band. Frank wore a big fake head. Nobody outside his inner circle knew his true identity. This became the subject of feverish speculation during his zenith years. Together, they rode relatively high. Then it all went wrong. Twenty-five years later and Jon has co-written a movie, Frank, inspired by his time in this great and bizarre band. Frank is set for release in 2014, starring Michael Fassbender, Maggie Gyllenhaal, and Domhnall Gleeson and directed by Lenny Abrahamson.

Just not interesting on its own merits. Would have to be way more detailed and insightful to appeal to the average reader.

Couldn’t listen. The narration made the voices sound like birds talking. Insane. The dialogue was louder than the narration too.

Complicated Descent into Evil
Revisado: 03-04-24
The narrator is amazing. The book is extremely detailed making it hard to follow from one listening to the next. You will learn the most awful things, done by methed out lowlife men in this book. It is useful as a cautionary tale not to hang out with or even near such people. Thus, it’s best audience are girls and women so tempted.
As an unsolved mystery it is so grizzly that I have to say you shouldn’t spend your time reading. I wish I had not read. It is potentially very depressing and IMO has no redeeming resolution at the end for the listener.

Historia
In April 1975, Ralph White was asked by his boss to transfer from the Bangkok branch of the Chase Manhattan Bank to the Saigon Branch. He was tasked with closing the branch if and when it appeared that Saigon would fall to the North Vietnamese army and ensure the safety of the senior Vietnamese employees. But when he arrived, he realized the situation in Saigon was far more perilous than he had imagined. The senior staff members there urged him to evacuate the entire staff of the branch and their families, which was far more than he was authorized to do.

Really miss Richard Ferrone
Revisado: 12-06-23
This audiobook makes one realize just how much character and drama Richard Ferrone brought to Sandford’s thrillers. Without him I’m not even sure that Sandford is as talented as I thought he was.
This book is a confusing mess about a very odd case. Not typical Sandford. The narrator does a fairly credible job except for characterizing Virgil. Got him all wrong. His voice is totally different than Ferrone’s. Very white bread. I’m surprised they couldn’t find someone with at least a few of Ferrone’s qualities.

Historia
Although highly controversial, Hervey Cleckley's Mask of Sanity provides one of the most influential clinical descriptions of psychopathy in the 20th century. At the crux of his argument, Cleckley claims that many psychopathic personalities go undiagnosed because they maintain a social mask that conceals their mental disorder and enables them to blend in with society. Furthermore, many of these affected individuals appear to function normally in accordance with standard psychiatric criteria.

Long, dense at times, and absolutely fascinating! This is the most complete look at the individual and societal problem of psychopaths.

Historia
We know of psychopaths from chilling headlines and stories in the news and movies - from Ted Bundy and John Wayne Gacy to Hannibal Lecter and Dexter Morgan. As Dr. Kent Kiehl shows, psychopaths can be identified by a checklist of symptoms that includes pathological lying; lack of empathy, guilt, and remorse; grandiose sense of self-worth; manipulation; and failure to accept one’s actions. But why do psychopaths behave the way they do? Is it the result of their environment - how they were raised - or is there a genetic component to their lack of conscience?

Ignore the trolls’ reviews—GREAT BOOK!
Revisado: 03-19-23
The author uses events in his journey to tie together the answers he discovered through his many years of research. This is an effective way to bring the subject to life and help include you on his journey. It is not bragging. Without a device like this it would be a dry read.
I have been interested in the research on psychopaths since my Clinical Psychology professor told us about Robert Hare’s plans in 1978. This book describes the work that came after Hare’s retirement. It is FASCINATING. IMO it is the best book out there on psychopathy.
And I can’t wait to read about what comes next!!
