Complex family bonds and complicated sibling relationships
Reviewed: 08-07-24
I thought the narration was great, and I like that there weren’t many characters.
I didn’t know where the story was going to go as there wasn’t so much of a description and I am not familiar with the author.
I am not sure why, but Sam’s character reminded me of Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine in a lot of ways. I was waiting for a similar twist, but it didn’t. I was glad about that really.
There were some good observations about complicated siblings.

It was a good story, I like Elin Hilderbrand books as they are indulgent but also have good story lines and the stories are always quite different. The narrator was really good.
A little saddened that the author used the R-word in chapter 12. Some words don’t need to be said.

I nearly didn’t get this book, but it kept popping up and the cover made me think of home.
It was really well written, narrated and a lovely story that made me feel like I was living there.
I didn’t want it to finish and pre-ordered the next book.

Everything makes more sense in the last hour
Reviewed: 07-02-24
Sometimes I struggle to get into some books, especially when I don’t know where it is going. I could not visualize any part of this book and remained a bit “sterile” in my mind. It didn’t take me to a place where I felt I was with the characters.
I maybe missed something but were the emails shared with her purposely as a test or an accidental setting?
I did find some of the observations funny, and I also found there were deep messages. I wish the bit in the middle of the book had been shorter. The last hour was good.

Great narration.

Easy listening
Reviewed: 06-18-24
The book was well narrated, but I wonder if that was what kept me listening.
I didn’t mind the ending, because two possible alternative endings would have been cheesy/nauseating or disappointing/predictable. Like the rest of the book it gave you a sense of mystery of where their lives will go.
I didn’t love Adrienne’s character, always, but at 25, weren’t we all trying to find and establish ourselves and need to be/feel we are loved?

Story
It’s 1984, and life has changed beyond recognition. Airstrip One, formerly known as Great Britain, is a place where Big Brother is always watching, and nobody can hide. Except, perhaps, for Winston Smith. Whilst working at the Ministry of Truth, rewriting history, he secretly dreams of freedom. And in a world where love and sex are forbidden, where it’s hard to distinguish between friend and foe, he meets Julia and O’Brien and vows to rebel.

I thought thought it was a brilliant production; the narration was nicely done.

Story
Crissy Dowling has created a world that suits her perfectly. She passes her days by the pool in a private cabana, she splurges on ice cream but never gains an ounce, and each evening she transforms into a Princess, performing her musical cabaret inspired by the life of the late Diana Spencer. Some might find her strange or even delusional, an American speaking with a British accent, hair feathered into a style thirty years old, living and working in a casino that has become a dated trash heap.

This is the second book I have listened to by this author and I loved it.
I love how all the details in his books are thought through, they are also very cleverly done, with facts and information.
It was very well narrated.
It was thrilling and twisty, without being psychological and sickening. I finished it in three days and now having one of those moments where I don’t know what to listen to next.

I can’t write too much because it would spoil the plot twist at the end. This book was fast, twisty and didn’t go the way I thought it was going to go - more than once!
I liked how the prologue worked its way into the perfect place later on.
The narrator was brilliant and I will check out other books read by her. Absolute natural.
Great story.
