Story
Ada promised herself she would never go back to the Trace, to her unbearable life on the swamp, and to her harsh father in Mississippi. But now, after running away to Baton Rouge and briefly knowing a different kind of life, she finds herself with nowhere to go but back home. Matilda, daughter of a sharecropper, is from the other side of the Trace. Doing what she can to protect her family from the whims and demands of some particularly callous locals is an ongoing struggle, so she forms a plan to go north.

TERRIBLE NARRATION!
Reviewed: 06-07-21
I couldn't make it past the Prologue! The narrator's incessant monotone "reading" without even emphazising punctuation nor normal voice inflections. I've heard 3rd graders read better. HIGHLY Disappointed! I like to feel as if I'm drawn into a story and become fully immersed into a character. But I can't read a book while I drive so I like to listen and feel like I'm listening to the characters. But, again, this narrator ruined a potentially good book. I'd give negative stars if possible.

Disappointed with narrator
Reviewed: 01-18-21
The narrator/performer was disappointing - he just read everything as run-on sentences, no real emotions, no tone changes amongst characters.
