Story
For me, choice might as well be a wish. My parents died in a fiery car crash when I was barely sixteen. I’m gay. I’m also totally in love with my brother. I didn’t choose any of that. In fact, I’ve tried like hell to deny it. But here I am in all my gay, brother-loving, no-parentals glory. Technically, Max isn’t my brother. Not by blood anyway. That should make it less ick, right? Considering he calls my parents mom and dad, probably not. Also, did I mention he’s straight?

There is a lot I dislike about this book. Mainly the storyline is very predictable and unrealistic. TBH I don’t know why I finished the book. This is the 3rd book by this author I’ve listened to so I blame myself. None have been very good in my opinion. Very predictable plots and storylines. Unrealistic plots and twists.

Story
After four tours in Afghanistan, Warren Groves couldn’t settle into civilian life. For the last 12 years, he’s survived by working odd and often illegal jobs for some of Denver’s less fortunate. His personal life is equally unsatisfactory. He can barely remember the last time he had sex, let alone the last time he got to use somebody hard and rough, the way he likes. Fate intervenes when a favor for a friend leads him to a pretty, young rent boy named Taylor Reynolds.

Honestly not much of a story line out of the gate. Pretty disappointed. I made it about 30% through and still couldn’t get into the story, or lack of a good story.

I loved this book. Beginning to end. Normally I listen to books at 2.5x speed but this one I had to slow it down. Didn’t want to miss one word. Completely invested in the MC’s from start to finish.

Don’t Bother

This book may be great. I cannot get over the narrator. He’s absolutely awful. As a mom who listens a to audiobooks as I work, I do not want to hear whining voices. It’s also really hard to follow the story because you can’t determine the ages of the kids. He whines everything for the children so in reality when the boy is like 15ish I thought he was still 5-6 it really confused me.
Just disappointed as I think there is an interesting story hidden here but I can’t go any further in the book as my nerves are on edge.

Story
The prevailing image of European Jews during the Holocaust is one of helpless victims. But in fact, many Jews struggled against the terrors of the Third Reich. This is the riveting history of one such group: a forest community numbering more than 1,200 that carried out the largest armed rescue operation of Jews by Jews in World War II.

What a Great Read
Reviewed: 01-22-22
I often am hesitant to listen/read another book on the holocaust or WW2 but this one was part of Plus so I figured, why not?
It was such an inspiring read. The mere fact that they survived was amazing but the community they created within the forest was incredible. It is amazing what one persons hope can do in a seemingly hopeless situation. Sad that this doesn’t get more attention and it was sad to hear about Tuvia Bielski’s life after the war. Definitely a great find and don’t regret the listen at all.

Story
Imagine being a 13-year-old girl in love with boys, school, family - life itself. Then suddenly, in a matter of hours, your life is shattered by the arrival of a foreign army. This is the memoir of Elli Friedmann, who was 13 years old in March 1944, when the Nazis invaded Hungary. It describes her descent into the hell of Auschwitz, a concentration camp where, because of her golden braids, she was selected for work instead of extermination. In intimate, excruciating details she recounts what it was like.

Horrible Narration
Reviewed: 07-03-21
This book was tragic, amazing, and powerful. Dear God though the narration for me was so bad I almost quit. Super melodramatic and really took away from the actual words. I’m disappointed because it made it tough to get through and minimized a very serious topic.
