Very Disappointing
Reviewed: 05-19-22
For a tenth anniversary edition, I expected something “more”. Life and Death was pretty lame. Seems like Stephanie Meyers did little more than “find and replace” the SHE and HE pronouns. The story cannot go any farther since a guy could not have a baby, which is vital to the plot and culmination of the story. The Re-release of Twilight is verbatim of the original release. Again, just seems like a lame attempt to squeeze more money out of Twilight fans. Shame on you, Stephanie! Wish I could get a refund.

But this wrap-up/finale was as bad as the finale of the TV version of Game of Thrones (Which was massively disappointing). I preordered this book as soon as I heard of it and waited months for its release. Thoroughly anticlimactic! I have to keep

Phenomenal! I can’t wait for part 2!

A Promised Land is so eye-opening as to the inner workings of our Congress and the Presidency (a la Obama). I have always been so impressed with this entire family! President Obama is very clear and detailed as he narrates his own story. His voice pulls you along and engages page after page. There were a few things I didn’t understand, but in context I got the general idea. I learned a few new words and a lot more of the integrity and vision of the Obamas. I absolutely and highly recommend this audiobook!

Totally Distracting - not in a good way.

Saphira's voice sounds like a life-long smoker well on the way to death by throat cancer! It is so "off" and distracting that it robbed the enjoyment of a novel that I had enjoyed reading. Sometimes audiobooks detract from the quality of the original written work.

Wonderful singer, but bland as narrator.
Reviewed: 07-10-18
I appreciate the story implied in the movie and later listened to via audiobook. I thought perhaps the “barely skimming over the surface” nature of the underlying tale in the movie was simply due to movie-making constraints. Thus I purchased the unabridged audiobook, narrated by the author, to find a more fully fleshed out story. It was hard to listen to because of the bland, monotone quality of the narration. I definitely think Bart Millard is much better at singing and song-writing than he is at reading aloud. The story was okay-ish, but thoroughly sanitized. Just really robbed it of the potential for impact. Just my opinion. I enjoy Mercy Me’s music and “got” where the story was going.

Book is great...just don't expect TV version
Reviewed: 04-24-16
I got the book as I liked the new TV series and was interested. The novel and TV show sort of bump in the night and share a Title... Definitely falls under the "based (loosely) on the novel". Both are good, each in its own genre.
BUT, I enjoyed the audiobook. It was engaging. The narrator has a great voice!
