Story
It’s Drop Night, the one night every decade when the gods hand out cards to a lucky few. If you get a deck, you’re a deckbearer capable of wondrous feats within the Great Game system. You can control powerful monsters and summon mantles that let you fight alongside your beasts. Ethan Wolfe, top enforcer for the Grimm family mob, has already been overlooked on two previous Drop Nights. People of his ilk seldom receive cards, as the gods tend to favor people who follow their divine mandates, but that doesn’t mean Wolfe can’t hope.

Surprisingly good

Came into this book with low expectations, and was mostly only checking it out of boredom. There was definitely some cringe here and there, but overall I actually really enjoyed it. Will definitely be willing to check out more from this author.

Story
When Leo started college, all he wanted was to be just another ordinary student. During the years he would spend at Mythos, he wouldn’t be a dragon god, a prince, or even his parents’ son. Living and studying there, he would have the chance to be the kind of person who goes to parties after classes, makes friends with classmates, and maybe even asks a girl out. The kind of person—student—whose biggest worries are bad grades, getting turned down by a cute girl, and boring or unlikeable teachers. He should have known things wouldn’t be that simple.

Big departure for the MC that felt forced
Reviewed: 07-12-24
*Mild spoilers ahead*
While I think this story is and has been well written I really didn’t like the direction of this book. The MC is almost a completely different person in this one. I understand the running from responsibility and death angle that the author was going for. That in and of itself makes perfect sense. But the abrupt lack of caring for his previously loved ones and complete switch up to undying loyalty to his new loved ones felt disingenuous. The Jack of the past 3 books loved his sister too much to abandon her the way he did in this book.
Some may say “He feels like he brings death and is safer without him.”. Safer how??? As far as he knows she was left on a war ship in the middle of a battle they were losing with all of her possible backers/protectors dead or engaged. Later in the story when he gets a hostage that could possible know something about his sister or the situation of her protectors he doesn’t even bother to ask. Let alone try using her sympathy towards him to send her on a mission to gather said information. The same goes for him not caring about his uncle or any of his other friends.
Then there’s his tribe, he’s been there for only 3 years and it’s like they’re the only people in the world he cares about. Even going as far as to call one of them his father. It felt unnatural and forced to me and was a constant source of frustration throughout the book.

Story
Logan Morrison always fought for everything he had, but it never was much. Growing up truly alone did that to you. One day, when taking on an extra tutoring gig to help out a cute chick with a quirky name, she ends up bringing him back to her place. Cool, right? Well, the next morning, Logan wakes up in chains and comes to learn that Cherry Cola is one beautiful and unhinged monster girl member out of three in a small Fresco City witch coven. Their plans for him? Servitude.

Great voice acting, good story
Reviewed: 07-04-24
Wow the voice acting in the is 10/10, especially on by the female vocalist. The writing was really good too. My only gripe was with the MC being a willing pet/slave, that is not my thing and annoyed me a bit. Other than that though this was really good.

Nick was now the last one, and he would need to find allies by forming Soul Pacts with both followers and wives. With the power of the Soul Knight class, he would have to use both paladin and necromancer magics to conquer the tower and defeat his enemies. But not all was right, in or outside the tower. Not ground breaking but pretty good. Good MC, cool powers, well written spice. Solid stuff.
Male VA whispers allot which annoying, and another spicy scene or two would have been good but solid otherwise.

Story
I guess you could call my latest job interview a success. I got hired, and it's way beyond my wildest dreams. The pay isn't great. And the hours are pretty much 24/7. But there's magic. And a portal to a fantasy world. Those kind of outweigh the negatives. At first, I thought I was just testing the latest VR survival RPG, but I'm starting to think this might not be a game after all. The monsters are definitely life-like and capable of carving me apart on their worst days. But on their best days, I make them mine.

Bruce is back!!!
Reviewed: 06-12-24
So after not liking his recent releases very much I thought maybe I would stop seeking out Bruce’s work for a bit. I think when an author cranks out story after story they start to become formulaic and feel less authentic. This story feels allot like his early work. Awesome MC with kick ass powers. Awesome supporting cast, and spice!
The one area of improvement I think would be the spicy scenes. The 2.5 spicy scenes per book is the only area where this book still feels as formulaic as the newer books. Also the scenes felt a bit short and lacked detail and lines from the female roll. That being said I still loved this book more than anything Bruce has done since Dragons Justice ended. Massive thumbs up.

Decent, but kind of flat
Reviewed: 05-30-24
Really disappointed, the amount of time we had to wait for this book and its…….average? Unfortunately, I’ll be stopping this series I once loved here. The book wasn’t bad it was just very flat, the skill progression is extremely slow even though the book felt like a constant fight scene. Most of those fight scenes you can skip to the end of and not miss a thing. We don’t get to see the city the story is built around at all, nor do we get any information on the growth of the budding Vertuse empire outside of the game. Allot of the things I’ve loved about this series up until now were cut for some reason.

Story
In 2036, an eccentric billionaire funded humanity’s first trip to Mars as an ego project. That expedition made the most significant discovery in human history: proof of extraterrestrial life. The ancient alien outpost they found catapulted humanity’s knowledge of faster-than-light travel, genetic engineering, and planetary colonization forward by centuries. Almost a century later, humanity has shown that despite their use of advanced technology, some things haven’t changed.

Interesting
Reviewed: 05-16-24
You ever watch a movie where you objectively know it’s bad, but you still like it? That’s how I felt about this book. There’s literally no plot for the first 2 hours, and even after that it’s nonsensical at points. Chapter 11 almost made me put the book down. But that wasn’t even my main problem with it. This voice acting pair is bad on both ends. The book feels like it was recorded on an iPhone with a mic plugged in. Swallowing noises, deep breaths in between sentences, bad pronunciation, it’s like they didn’t even bother editing at all. Both of the voice actors only have 2 voices as well, there’s no range at all. Better VA’s would have made some of the problems with the story more bearable.
That aside, there are things about the story that have genuinely caught my interest, the MCs powers and potential have me looking forward to seeing to what he becomes. I’ll continue with the series because of that alone.
