I think I must be mad to keep listening to such devastating stories! I must be a glutton for punishment to care the slightest bit about the fates of such flawed characters. How can I get my hopes up time and again that these characters won't be out maneuvered and brutalized, that there won't be a trail of bodies left in their wake?
Yet here I am, unable to dnf, incapable of looking away from the train wreck of their poor decisions and inadequate support. Once again,
mesmerized by the narration of Gerard Doyle, I finish listening to the tale of misery of a cursed cadre of spies and go looking for the next book in the series.
But first, I'll listen to a rom com written by someone who believes in HEA's.

Absolutely delightful! Dianne Freeman's Lady Harleigh, now Mrs. Hazelton, doesn't miss a step, piercing together the clues in this cozy who-done-it! Told with keen observations and witty asides, clever clues and plentiful suspects, these books are great fun! Exquisitely narrated by Sarah Zimmerman.

Author Dianne Freeman's Countess of Harleigh Mysteries are as delightful as any historical cozy series I've ever read. Frances is a totally charming, intelligent and observant protagonist, whose forthright American nature is tempered by the mores of turn of the 20th Century London society. Her sharp wit is reserved for asides to her readers, taking us into her confidence, while she censors her speech to conform to acceptable communication of the upper class.
Faced with a puzzle, this one striking very close to her heart, Frances is undaunted in her drive to solve the mystery and prove the innocence of her beloved fiancé, George Hazelton.
Secondary characters are well developed, conversations are realistically reported, and the plot is thick with possibilities and suspects galore.
Delightfully narrated by Sarah Zimmerman.

This is my first romance by author Meghan Quinn and I loved her characters. Although there is a lot of fun and humor in the story, she also dealt with some serious issues that would be very challenging at any age but especially for young college students.
Narrators Tor Thom and Mia Madison are terrific in their specific roles. This is my first audiobook narrated by Mia Madison and I was taken out of the story a bit every time she spoke a male role. In every other way, I recommend this book.

Author Ali Hazelwood has written a couple of my favorite romances. In my opinion, NOT IN LOVE doesn't rank with her best, but I still enjoyed it. It has compelling characters with challenging back stories, a plot that keeps you guessing about who really are the good guys, and dual narration, which is the best option for romantic storytelling. Although I do like spicy stories, this book seemed to be a little more spice than story. I think that the two enormously talented narrators helped make this a better book. I do recommend it.

Author Dianne Freeman has created one of my favorite cozy mystery characters in Frances, Countess of Harleigh. A keen observer, Frances tells the readers exactly what she sees and thinks with understated, wry humor and wit. Confronted with a delicate situation concerning her young sister Lily's impending marriage, Frances knows that the ceremony needs to be as soon as can be. She finds a solution by moving the event to her fiancé, George's brother's country estate and limiting the guest list to family. As soon as they arrive, one dangerous incident after another mars the festivities. With many suspects and no clear motives, there is even a question as to who is the intended target.
Narrator Sarah Zimmerman is a perfect Frances and does an admirable job with the other voices, too.

I adore narrator Shane East and will sample almost any series that he narrates. This period drama has more in common with modern day soap operas than I expected and it ends with a cliffhanger. Although the characters are somewhat compelling, there is a developmental shallowness that grates throughout and an exaggerated theme of love or vengeance that feels forced. While I did not enjoy the story as much as I had hoped, it might be a comfortable fit for readers who like their romances with more drama than I do.

Author Iona Whishaw has created some of the best characters in any historical mystery series that I have read. Lane Winslow, a British spy during WWII, and her husband, Inspector Frederick Darling of the Nelson Police frequently find themselves immersed in mysteries stemming from events that took place many years prior to their present day.

Set in the years following WWII in a rural area of Canada, TO TRACK A TRAITOR has Lane traveling to England to help locate her younger sister, Diana who also was involved in the spy game. Meanwhile, Darling's investigation of the disappearance of a local husband and father may be connected to the discovery of a 30 year old corpse near London. Soon, he is sent over to handle that case while Sargent Ames and Constable Tyrrell are left in charge of the investigation at home.
I love how the author connects all of the puzzle pieces of the cases, while giving us glimpses of actions that the police never see and can only surmise.
The narration by Marilla Wex is a perfect fit.

Okay, let's face it. Sometimes we just love the stories and sometimes we just love the narrators. This is a pretty good romance about a cocky hockey player and a baker, with fake marriage and enemies to lovers tropes. It was fun. But the big draw here was definitely narrator Shane East doing a Scottish accent. If you do not know who this narrator is, then it is time (if you love romance audiobooks) to get with the program and swoon along with the rest of us.
Stella Hunter is the real deal, too. Together they are WOW.

As a historical romance, this story was much stronger on the romance than on the history. That's fine. Historical fiction isn't always historically accurate, and most readers, me included, have primarily arrived for a dose of HEA (happily ever after). Nevertheless, this story is loads of fun, has delightful characters, including children and pets, has moments of hilarity and some enticing main characters, too.

Narrated by one of my favorite narrators, the incomparable Shane East and (new to me narrator) Eva Feiler, who was perfect in this role, listening was an absolute joy.
