Not part of the series
Reviewed: 09-27-24
I bought this because I loved the first two books in the series with Yardley and her daughter. The main character in this book was part of the second book, but the new narrator did not do the character justice. I feel deceived. The good book was decent and had an interesting plot, but the characters were not well developed, and were generally unrelatable.
Start a new series with these people so we can get to know them better but don’t say it’s part of the Yardley series.

Great character dynamic
Reviewed: 08-12-24
I enjoyed the characters immensely. The dynamic between Birdy and Seb was really fun. I liked having three books in one. Because the individual books are so short, I’m not sure that it’s worth a credit, so I would love it if they could combine even two books together to make it more worthwhile. My minimum is 10 hours per credit: I’ll occasionally do 9+ hours but never 6.
The storylines in each book were engaging and had good mystery elements to them. I like Seb’s body language analysis- it helps reader see what makes him a good detective.

From New York Times, USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author Freida McFadden comes the next installment of the unbelievably twisty, tension-packed and globally bestselling Housemaid series. This book can be enjoyed as a standalone listen: and once you start, it will have you up all night until the final explosive twist.

It drug on for seven hours then got good
Reviewed: 07-23-24
The first seven hours of this book is all Millie‘s internal monologue about how they can’t afford this and that, and how much she is worried that Enzo is lying to her, and how she’s worried about her son beinga sociopath.
I had a good idea where it was going, but I still enjoyed seeing how it all played out. Sure there was a decent twist at the end, but it was tedious to get there.

Kept me interested
Reviewed: 06-26-24
I did not care for the narrator, a bit too dramatic with the pauses and almost stuttering dialogue.
The story was very intriguing. Not like I was expecting (thought it would be like The Kind Worth Killing).
The twist at the end still has me mad. I don’t like what happened. But I want to go back and listen again to see how the author got away with it. Definitely a twist I never would have expected.
It almost has me scratching my head like Verity did. Unbelievable yet captivating.

It was a pretty exciting ride. I was surprised with many of the twists, but at some point it all kind of became redundant. The ending fell a little bit flat for me.

Stupid female main character
Reviewed: 06-26-23
This is YA all the way. This dumb character would gaslight herself. The narrator made it worse, exaggerating her dramatic voice like a teenager. I had to force myself to finish bc everyone raved about this on TicTok. I was surprised by the twist but still regret wasting the credit. Usually like this author.

Gave me Crawdads Sings vibes
Reviewed: 06-20-23
Originally was scared to listen because the first scene finding the girl was creepy. It did not go anywhere that I expected it to go and was very happy about that. Character development was phenomenal and the journey of Angel really gave me Where the Crawdads Sings Vibes. The ending was surprising, but they gave plenty of hints so I should’ve seen it coming. It’s not fast paced but definitely a beautifully written story with a satisfying ending.

I was very pleasantly surprised by this book from the Audible Plus collection. I liked the characters. I wish I would’ve known I needed to pay more attention to all of the characters introduced throughout the story, because at the end, I was a little confused about who everyone was. Definitely surprising ending.

I thought I was going to get adrenal fatigue when the terrible things just kept happening. Come on, already, how sick and prolonged can this get?
I did get engrossed and it kept me coming back for more- definitely not boring. But towards the end I began to roll my eyes with every reappearance of the psychopath.
