Story
Cassandra Penelope Dankworth is a creature of habit. She likes what she likes (museums, jumpsuits, her boyfriend, Will) and strongly dislikes what she doesn't (mess, change, her boss drinking out of her mug). Her life runs in a pleasing, predictable order…until now. Then, something truly unexpected happens: Cassie discovers she can go back and change the past. One small rewind at a time, Cassie attempts to fix the life she accidentally obliterated, but soon she'll discover she's trying to fix all the wrong things.

A Cerebral Time Travel Caper
Reviewed: 08-13-24
I loved every word of this book from start to finish, how it walks you through the reasoning why it starts where it does, to the futility of her time travel. I was frustrated with the lack of immediate exposition, at first, but once things were revealed, I realized it had to be paced as it was.

Story
When Margaret and her husband Hal bought the large Victorian house on Hawthorn Street—for sale at a surprisingly reasonable price—they couldn’t believe they finally had a home of their own. Then they discovered the hauntings. Every September, the walls drip blood. The ghosts of former inhabitants appear, and all of them are terrified of something that lurks in the basement. Most people would flee. Margaret is not most people. Margaret is staying.

A multifaceted ghost story
Reviewed: 10-18-23
The sample clip led me to believe this book would be funnier than scary, and I’ll admit there was humor throughout, it got really dark. Our protagonist and narrator isn’t your typical ghost story heroine, with a checkered past and questionable coping mechanisms. The ghosts shift between reality, figments, and allegories. I highly recommend it!

Story
As one of the few witches in Britain, Mika Moon knows she has to hide her magic, keep her head down, and stay away from other witches so their powers don’t mingle and draw attention. And as an orphan who lost her parents at a young age and was raised by strangers, she’s used to being alone and she follows the rules...with one exception: an online account, where she posts videos "pretending" to be a witch. She thinks no one will take it seriously.

Pure enjoyment from start to finish!

This book is so flawlessly written—every character and plot twist has so many dimensions, and I felt immersed in the setting, as well. I love the non traditional family that holds court in the story, and how the children are written. The love story harkens to Jane Austin, while remaining current (and outwardly referencing Austin as well). There’s one very hot romance scene, but it’s not the point of the book.

Story
The single glass of wine with dinner... the cold beer on a hot day... the champagne flute raised in a toast... what I'd drink if Hunter S. Thompson wanted to get wasted with me... these are my fantasies lately. Too bad I've gone sober. When Sacha Z. Scoblic was drinking, she was a rock star; the days were rough and the nights filled with laughter and blackouts. Then she gave it up. She had to. Here are her adventures in an utterly and maddeningly sober world... and how she discovered that nothing is as odd and fantastic as life without a drink in hand.

I love how this story flows with humor and honesty when it comes to being sober. Her story feels a lot like mine, though she’s clearly better with words…guess I need to run a marathon now!

All. The. Feels.

Edward Kelsey Moore has put together a masterful tapestry of storytelling, character development, and poetic philosophy. The magical realism is a small part of this heart-wrenching and humorous tale.
I highly recommend multiple listens; certain themes appear that can go unnoticed the first time through, which makes every subsequent listen that much more enjoyable and significant.
This has become my at-least-once-a-year read--my favorite book! Be prepared to chuckle and sob, then guffaw!

Not much character development
Reviewed: 02-11-17
Neither main character is entirely likable, and the "purpose" Judy finds is super forced. Monster becomes unselfish for like a minute, and only because he actually listens to his paper employee for once. The whole thing was anticlimactic.

Story
Verily, the story Biff has to tell is a miraculous one, filled with remarkable journeys, magic, healings, kung fu, corpse reanimations, demons, and hot babes. Even the considerable wiles and devotion of the Savior's pal may not be enough to divert Joshua from his tragic destiny. But there's no one who loves Josh more (except maybe "Maggie," Mary of Magdalan) and Biff isn't about to let his extraordinary pal suffer and ascend without a fight.

Great story, racist narrator
Reviewed: 09-20-16
Okay, saying the narrator is racist is a bit reductive. What I mean is that Mr. Stevens uses accented that are a caricature of the accents associated with certain characters' countries of origin, as if he were voicing a cartoon from the forties. The book is in English, and obviously no one is actually speaking English, so why the accents? I wish I had simply read the book, as it was a very good story.
