Story
Noah Harris and Ashley Flynn are field agents for a powerful organization tasked with protecting humanity from the misuse of game-changing technology. But when they discover hidden portals that link Earth to numerous planets, they are thrust into a maze of deception and intrigue they can't begin to understand....one that not only has them battling for their very lives, but that will decide the fate of worlds. Because, inexplicably, each of the planets contain human civilizations, and the rulers of our nearest portal neighbor have come up with a brilliant, twisted plan to conquer ours.

Characters over the top, but it’s ok!

I enjoyed it overall. Sometimes the characters were a little over the top, but that’s what made it fun. The narrator was good too even sped up. Hard combo to beat!

Story
Zero day: a software bug that allows a hacker to break into your devices and move around undetected. One of the most coveted tools in a spy's arsenal, a zero day has the power to silently spy on your iPhone, dismantle the safety controls at a chemical plant, alter an election and shut down the electric grid (just ask Ukraine). For decades, under cover of classification levels and non-disclosure agreements, the United States government became the world’s dominant hoarder of zero days.

It’s pretty good
Reviewed: 07-14-23
Though you can obviously tell there are a ton of political opinion injections into this book, it is a pretty decent woven story that is somewhat accurate in the portrayal of the black hat hacker community. It did sometimes feel like someone took many many NYT articles and strung them together in a somewhat cohesive story. The timelines are back and forth with some personal context that is sometimes irrelevant. I was able to ignore a lot of the political rhetoric, but there are other reviewers that just couldn’t stomach it. I would recommend Cyber Spies which is a great book that goes further back in history and establishes when and where these technologies started to be used.

I love this book

I’ve listened to this multiple times and have thoroughly enjoyed it each time… not sure why people have decided to try and compare this to other novels or disparage the character development the author used. I feel he built a great world and would love to see this in another format, like a live action series similar to “Upload” on Amazon Prime.

Overall pace and tone made this listen very enjoyable. Recommended by a friend, I was a bit distracted when I started listening, but after listening once, I had to go and listen again! Sure this isn't a long one, but it sure was well written. Amazon Originals can be hit or miss. This one was a hit.
