Couldn’t stop reading

I loved this story and see why it’s gotten good reviews! I was not a fan of the sometimes whiny narrator. I found myself reacting out loud on my walks to parts that made me laugh or almost cry.

Enjoyable, well written but troubling

Comforting and helpful

Helpful to hear that it really is tougher on teens these days. It was comforting to hear things that may help that are doable. It was a little odd to have a male author read by a female. Though there were definitely stories about males and females, there did seem to be more references to her and she. Overall glad I listened and plan to re-listen also.

Funny and poignant

Thoroughly enjoyed listening to this. It was quite funny with one liners you think but don’t say yourself. But moments were tough as I could identify with parts of many of the characters and their hurts.

Grumpy man with a big heart

It was so much about normal life and yet so touching. His life circumstances and his strong love for his wife allowed me to like him despite his grumbling. I found myself laughing out loud at times. Glad I read it.

I am often fascinated with people’s story of how they grew up and how they got to where they are. This was especially interesting having already known who she became but not where she started. I loved hearing about her childhood in her voice and about how she met her husband. It does start to get more political in the last third I’d say. So depending on your views, you may not enjoy that as much.

Painful but good

I learned a lot about the depth of pain and circumstances that came with WWII. While I cried many times throughout the book, I’m glad to have read it.
