Story
Unless one knows the value of loyalty, he cannot appreciate the cost of betrayal. What if Darcy and Elizabeth met weeks before the Meryton assembly? What if there is no barely “tolerable” remark to have Elizabeth rejecting Mr. Darcy’s affections, but rather a dip in a cold creek that sets her against him? What if Mr. Bennet is a renown Shakespearean scholar who encourages Darcy to act the role of Petruchio from Shakespeare’s “The Taming of the Shrew” to bring Elizabeth’s Katherina persona to the line? ELIZABETH BENNET’s pride has her learning a difficult lesson: Loyalty is ...

Elizabeth is acting like the witch she usually is, which is hateful and mean when Darcy pays her back in kind. I was happy because she richly deserved retribution.

The reason fairy tales end with a wedding is no one wishes to view what happens next. Five years earlier, Darcy had raced to Hertfordshire to soothe Elizabeth Bennet’s qualms after Lady Catherine’s venomous attack, but a devastating carriage accident left him near death for months and cost him his chance at happiness with the lady. Now, they meet again upon the Scottish side of the border, but can they forgive all that has transpired in those years? Poor Elizabeth. She and Lydia had a very tough life after Darcy was seriously injured in carriage accident. Elizabeth didn’t know what happened and thought he had just quit caring about her. Elizabeth was very resourceful and made the best she could under the circumstances.

Reviewed: 08-02-24
Elizabeth is mean spirited, opinionated, arrogant and I thoroughly disliked her. I can’t imagine why Darcy loved her and the whole story was about how he tried to win her love. He really should’ve dumped her and found someone more deserving. Actually none of the characters were presented very well. They were all flat.

Absolutely love this book. The story is complex and most entertaining. The Bennetts and their friends stay one step ahead of their opponents. I liked the Chinese aspect . It is a long book but I never lost interest. It would have been perfect if performed by a good narrator.

Story
When the black rain began to fall, it was a worldwide phenomenon that mystified everyone. There was little time to ponder the cause. Most animals died at the onset. While some humans were unaffected, others experienced a half-death of sorts, morphing into blood and flesh-crazed creatures with a desire to hunt the living. Climbing Fox Wattana of the Henomawi Nation claims responsibility for the black rain; he says it will will ensure the ultimate extinction of the United States government as revenge for robbing his people of their land. Cole "CB" Baxter isn't taking this lying down.

Shel man is not only a great writer- he is also a superb narrator and has a wonderful singing voice. The characters are so real to me and he gives themselves distinct personalities with their voices as well as his descriptive writing. The story is interesting. It is set in several locations beginning in the Florida Everglades to boats both large and small. Then to Key West across the Gulf to Texas and then to Kansas and further west. I love the Native American aspect. I love the characters - especially the protagonist Cole, aka CB. The book is educational as well as entertaining. I highly recommend this audiobook.

Abandoned by her mother and ignored by her father, it is hardly any wonder young Elizabeth Bennet’s curiosity soon brings about trouble and marriage to a man she does not love. Colonel Fitzwilliam’s family - save for his cousin Mr. Darcy - despises her, and life is not what she dreamed of. As she matures and grows from an impetuous girl into a woman, Elizabeth’s most reliable source of friendship and comfort becomes Mr. Darcy. To me this was not a P&P variation. The author used some names but none of the characters behaved even remotely like Austen characters. I did not like any of them except for a minor character- a spinster who briefly taught Jane and Elizabeth. There was zero chemistry between Darcy and Elizabeth.
