Historia
With her new husband George busy on a special mission for the British Museum, Frances has taken on an assignment of her own. The dowager Viscountess Wingate needs someone to sponsor her niece, Kate, for presentation to Queen Victoria. Frances—who understands society’s quirks and constraints as only an outsider can—is the perfect candidate. Kate is charming and intelligent, though perhaps not quite as sheltered as she might first appear. More worrying to Frances is the viscountess’s sudden deterioration.

I particularly like the author’s sense of the time period. The characters are interesting, and I am always surprised by the murderer.

Historia
Frances Wynn, the American-born Countess of Harleigh, enjoys more freedom as a widow than she did as a wife. After an obligatory year spent mourning her philandering husband, Reggie, she puts aside her drab black gowns, leaving the countryside and her money-grubbing in-laws behind. With her young daughter in tow, Frances rents a home in Belgravia and prepares to welcome her sister, Lily, arriving from New York - for her first London season.

Excellent First Person Account of the Events Leading Up to, and After January 6th by CassidyHutchinson
Revisado: 10-14-23
I would recommend this book to anyone open to hearing the heartfelt account of someone who felt compelled to speak the truth, as she experienced it, about January 6th and the Trump White House. Cassidy chose to put country over party— which too few other people did. I recommend the audio book because you get to hear her story in her own voice.

At six years old, Terry was told by his headteacher that he would never amount to anything. He spent the rest of his life proving that teacher wrong. At 66, Terry had lived a life full of achievements: becoming one of the UK's best-selling writers, winning the Carnegie Medal and being awarded a knighthood for services to literature. Following his untimely death from Alzheimer's disease, the mantle of completing Terry's memoir was passed to Rob Wilkins, his former assistant, friend and now head of the author's literary estate.

What a Life! What a Biography!
Revisado: 07-05-23
As a longtime fan, I loved this biography of Terry Pratchett. It was wonderful to get a window into the inspirations for certain elements of his books. It was also humbling to read about the decisions he made and the actions he took to make Alzheimer’s visible to the world. If you normally shy away from “sad things “ in literature— don’t shy away from this. It is not all sad, and you’ll be the better for having read it. Not the least by discovering new enjoyment of Terry Pratchett’s books.

Not your average romantic comedy!
Revisado: 01-23-23
While this book doesn’t start as a romantic comedy, but it does get there! It has a quirky plot— most of which is fun. There is a detour into a minor character dealing with visa and immigration law, that went on too long, but the main plot is satisfying.

You need to be all right with thievery as a main theme
Revisado: 01-23-23
I love Nora Robert’s books, but for me this was one of her lesser stories. There was too much emphasis on justifying stealing— just because the male character was a charming rake.

Postmaster General Moist von Lipwig, former arch-swindler and confidence man, has exceeded all expectations - including his own. So it's somewhat disconcerting when Lord Vetinari summons Moist to the palace and asks, "Tell me, Mr. Lipwig, would you like to make some real money?"

Vanessa flies to Austria to find her husband, inadvertently becoming involved in a mystery that spans three countries...and the famous dancing stallions of the Spanish Riding School. Great Period Mystery!
Revisado: 08-01-22
This was published in 1965, and is a fascinating look at the time period! Mary Stewart sets it in Austria, and includes elements of both a circus and the famous Lippizaner horses. There a number of sections of high tension, as well as mystery.
I liked the narrator, and found her easy to understand.
