Story
Set in the mountains of southern Appalachia, Demon Copperhead is the story of a boy born to a teenaged single mother in a single-wide trailer, with no assets beyond his dead father’s good looks and copper-colored hair, a caustic wit, and a fierce talent for survival. Relayed in his own unsparing voice, Demon braves the modern perils of foster care, child labor, derelict schools, athletic success, addiction, disastrous loves, and crushing losses.

Enjoyed Luke's honesty and insight as he recounted his journey. Also enjoyed the cultural and historic context he gave to his travel destinations. Perfect ending/beginning to realize living an authentic life would have indeed made his dad proud.

Story
In her memoir You Could Make This Place Beautiful, poet Maggie Smith explores the disintegration of her marriage and her renewed commitment to herself in lyrical vignettes that shine, hard and clear as jewels. The book begins with one woman’s personal, particular heartbreak, but its circles widen into a reckoning with contemporary womanhood, traditional gender roles, and the power dynamics that persist even in many progressive homes.

Don't Miss

It's possible to sympathize with someone who's experienced betrayal and divorce but only someone who has gone through it can truly understand the many painful nuances. Closed my eyes, nodded my head, and shed more than a few tears throughout this book. Can't explain how comforting it is to know someone out there understands.
I hope the author will continue to share her journey.

Practical and Realistic Guide to Longevity
Reviewed: 05-26-23
Went through pretty quick the first time but planning to go back through at a slower pace to absorb more details and note the many practical recommendations.
Loved that Peter Attia took the time to read his own book. That always makes a huge difference for me. And his chapter on mental health was fantastic. Hope he writes another book expanding upon this chapter. Definitely changed my impression of him and gave me more faith in his work and perspective.

Story
A best seller in its native Canada, Drunk Mom is a gripping, brutally honest memoir of motherhood in the shadow of alcoholism. Three years after giving up drinking, Jowita Bydlowska found herself throwing back a glass of champagne like it was ginger ale. It was a special occasion: a party celebrating the birth of her first child. It also marked Bydlowska's immediate, full-blown return to crippling alcoholism.
