This audiobook sat in my library for awhile, but I randomly started playing it when I had a migraine, as I scrolled through my audiobook library playing the first few seconds of several of my “Not Stared” books to see if I could find a Narrators voice who could give me that ‘calm’ amidst my migraine pain anxiety so that I could divert my focus away from my head pain. Well, I started playing this audiobook and didn’t stop because of how soothing the narrators voices were! At first I didn’t even care about the storyline, just let me focus away from pain. But wow! I was so pleasantly surprised at this book. In the first few hours it feels a bit dragged out, and then things start happening and I was absolutely caught off guard from the events in this book. I absolutely absorbed it; clung onto it for dear life to endure my 3-day migraine. It kept me company & fully engaged & captivated during the sleepless nights of my 3-day migraine and that’s priceless to me!

This book was really really good. There’s a back story to this storyline that was even more interesting than the already interesting main storyline. The back story is interweaved well within the present storyline and I looked forward to hearing all of it!! Good twists I didn’t see coming, and this story just sticks with me because of the fact that there are lots of people out there in the world who have gone through the same ordeal as that of the backstory of the main character.. worth the credit for sure!!

This is one of those books where the journey itself is better (at a base level of captivation) then the actual ending. It was just okay. It kept my interest (which is all I ask for when I escape into my audiobooks books) but keeping track of the characters when a new chapter started was difficult. It would be great if each Chapter was titled with the name of the Character that was speaking. I had to rewind chapters often.

Entertainment value - minimum level “Meh”. I was actually enjoying this book until the Police investigation came into the mystery. Seems like this Author fantasized that Investigators are not really investigating at all, in order to hold back on some predictable aspects to the listener so that the overall mystery stayed ‘in play’. Some eye rolling moments for sure.
I also dislike books where you’re mostly stuck in the head of the characters. This made the book feel too long. Listening hours of the lengthy ‘thoughts’ of the characters. Ick. So I sped up the listening speed thank goodness!!

Given these factors, I was more than ready for this book to be done but had to make it to the ending in the hopes that it offset the journey to that point. It didn’t!!

The plot of this book is different and it was captivating because of how many mysteries I listen to which all end up following the same plot lines after awhile (a retreat where someone ends up dead, or, Detective moves to home town where someone ends up dead, or, Widow discovers horrible secrets from seemingly perfect Husband… the list goes on!)
So, the plot of this book was totally different than other mystery books and it kept my interest. I thoroughly relished my listening time. As for the ending, you decide!! The ending of the book didn’t diminish the intriguing hours of listening!!

I listened to this book completely bored & disconnected to the whining, mental ramblings & strange decisions of the main character. But I felt determined to get to the ending. The ending was a twist, but by the time I got to the twist I was like, “Oh thank GAWD this book is OVER!” And, thank goodness this was a free book.

There was a touch of a unique twist in this book that I appreciated. Especially since I listen to so many books that the twists become so uninteresting. The Narrator was good but she maintains this even-keeled emotion throughout that this book that made me fall asleep a couple times! Lol! This book shouldn’t be classified a thriller as much as it is an intriguing drama with lots of other crazy drama tied in. I think it’s worth the credit!

I chose this book becuase I loved "The Mother in Law" by the same Author. However, this story wasn't 'enveloping' at all. Low drama, and an undercurrent of boredom while listening, and also the order/organization of how the plot line was spelled out in the story seemed 'jumpy'. A 'meh' story that I stuck with because I was hoping that there would be a big twist at the end. Lower your expectations, and you're good!!

This is a book whose mystery keeps you wanting to listen, but the other branches of the storyline are a bit boring. I couldn’t even start to care about any of the characters, but, there’s a sense that an unpredictable ending is coming. Normally, this aspect is a good thing, and so you keep hanging in there with the book. But then, in the end, what should be a well-deserved solution to the mystery (to the Listener), is instead this choppy abrupt explanation with ambiguous logic tied to it. I was like, “Did I miss a chapter??” “Did the Authors Agent call her towards the end of the writing of this book and tell her she needed to write the ending THAT VERY DAY!??” LOL! Very unsatisfying. Also, the narrator had a voice that made me want to fall asleep…:-)) But I really liked other books by this Author!
