Story
It is 997 CE, the end of the Dark Ages. England is facing attacks from the Welsh in the west and the Vikings in the east. Those in power bend justice according to their will, regardless of ordinary people and often in conflict with the king. Without a clear rule of law, chaos reigns. In these turbulent times, three characters find their lives intertwined.

Love is the Conqueror!!

Having read another book by Ken Follett in this series, I was anxious to read this pre-quill. I was not disappointed. The story was true to the time and place and each character was drawn as a very real person. The inner action among the people was made very real. Can’t wait to read the next book in the story. Thank for the great narrative.

Story
When Frank Meyer and his family are executed during a home invasion, the police begin investigating the secret life they're sure Meyer had. Joe Pike's on a hunt of his own: to clear his friend's name, and to punish the people who murdered him. What starts out as a simple trail gets twisted fast by old grudges, double crosses, blood vengeance, and a crime so terrible even Pike and his partner Elvis Cole have no way to measure it.

Joe Pike, My Man
Reviewed: 12-26-20
Elvis and Pike are two of my favorite characters. Pike did the heavy lifting in this story. Standing up for his men and making sure they are taken care of despite the time they haven’t been in touch. Friends and confidants are called in to help. Very interesting and surprising to the end. I’m reading them all in order.
