I enjoy Amanda Mariel's stories, and especially her audiobooks, because I don't have a lot of time to read. With an audiobook, I can be doing other things at the same time and still enjoy a really good story. I love romance, and her characters, especially the ladies, always rouse my emotions and have me rooting for their happiness. It's always fun when a marriage of convenience or necessity becomes more, and I enjoyed seeing Emmeline and Tristan take that journey. I really love when a rake finds true love, and I enjoyed the support of Tristan's family.

I read both these books when they came out, and I was excited to see how they would sound on audio. I have to admit I was a little disappointed at first. The narrator seemed hesitant and careful, like he was afraid he would misspeak or stumble over the words, and I found it distracting. It got better after a few hours (it's a 22 hour book) - either he got more comfortable, or I got used to it...or the story pulled me in enough that it didn't bother me anymore. Still, I wouldn't call the narration any better than average. The story itself is engaging and entertaining, although I enjoyed the second book more than the first. It felt like there was more emotion and personal struggle in it (maybe it was the resistance and denial of their feelings). After the first book, I had many questions, but they were satisfactorily answered with the second book. I liked the way Gray and Rory and their kingdom and people were pulled into the story without revisiting/retelling the story from book I. Essentially Book II encompasses the before and after of the first book, focusing on Rhys/Evrard/Evander and his story. I found Evander a little annoying, arrogant, and (surprisingly) naive, although he does redeem and prove himself by the end. I have to say, though, that Rory and Marcos were my favorite characters of the first and second books, respectively. This is a great fantasy set, with magic, surprises, twists, friendship, abandonment, betrayal, redemption, sorcerers, mythical beasts, and - of course - a HEA ending.

I really enjoyed this story. It's a unique take on the got-drunk-in-Vegas-and-ended-up-married trope. I adored Jake and his clumsy bumbling through life. I was on pins on needles waiting to see what choice he would make. Of course, I had my ideas of what I thought would be best for him, but I waivered back and forth. Both Aaron and Trevor seemed to love Jake, and they both certainly wanted and needed him. I felt for all three men, but as the story wound down it became clear what would be best for JAKE. I'm glad that's the way it turned out. I love that Anni is so great at making you want everyone to win. even when you're not sure they can. Somehow it always works out the best for everyone.😉.

The narration was good, and provided distinct voices and personalities for the characters.

I am a huge fan of E.J Russell's paranormal books, although I hadn't read/listened to many of her contemporary romances, but with both an author and narrator that I love, I took advantage of a free audio copy of this book. I'm glad I did! MCs Dev and Casey were both the sweetest, and I really appreciated the lack of severe angst. Many problems come up, but they are dealt with without overblown handwringing. Both Dev's ex and Casey's wanna-be boyfriend/stalker are calmly and logically put in their places, and there wasn't a huge communication breakdown (just a little one), I loved the side characters as well. The town of Home is chock full of quirky, engaging characters, and I loved the universal response of mm-hmm, and the town motto (refer to my headline). This is book I, and I am really looking forward to more in the series.

What to say about the narration? Greg Boudreaux is one of my favorite narrators and I would likely listen to any audiobook he narrated. His voice is pleasant and so easy to listen to, and I love the way he brings each characters' personality to life. A narrator can make or break an audiobook (and there are some audiobooks I won't listen to, even though I loved the book, because the narrator is too boring or dry). That is definitely not the case here. I think Greg could make the phone book sound interesting!

I LOVE this series, but boy was this book hard on my heart. You keep thinking. 'No, she wouldn't do that!' but you can never feel quite sure...and she does come close. Along with the drama and fear, there is plenty of love and connection, and the banter and snark we know from prior books. The author puts the guys through he**, and it will leave you breathless and on the edge of your seat. Then, on top of all the external enemies -taragorians and witches - there is a mole in the NHSO. (You probably won't be surprised when you find out who it is.) I love this group of guys, watching Madeo open up and get closer with Cosmo, and seeing Jude and Cosmo negotiate the love they both have for Mads (although of a very different sort for each).

I loved the book when I read the eBook, but listening to Zachary Zaba's narration added a whole new layer of emotional impact. He did a fantastic job!

Warning: If you are looking for a serious read, this is not it.

Trigger warnings (tongue-in-cheek): Death of parent, massive onion and sunflower annihilation (don't worry, the sunflowers give as good as they get), good jokes, bad jokes. sarcasm/satire, bathroom humor, sexual innuendo, non-PC comments, woke-skewering, and lots and lots of foul language.

This is an engaging and entertaining story. At the core, it is ostensibly one man's (Prince Jasper) journey to protect and then win back his kingdom from invading forces. It's a very twisty journey filled with non-sequiturs, odd allies, witches, wizards, giants, dragons. scorpion gorillas, and more bad luck than one person can bear...and it's all delivered with a wry and dry wit. In spite of all the inanity, I could not help but cheer on Prince Jasper and wonder how it would all play out. Again, this is not a serious story, and it takes swipes at a number of political ideas, stereotypes, literary tropes, and scientific 'truths' (Is the Earth flat or round?) It's all good fun, and I found myself helplessly laughing at some truly terrible jokes. It was a fun ride, and the ending fit the story perfectly. I would read/listen to more from this author.

The narration is odd, almost mechanical and unemotional for most of the story. At first, I though it was an AI performance, and I had to check back to see that it was, in fact, a human narrator. I'm not sure, but I think perhaps it was meant to be that way. In the end, I think it actually suited the atmosphere of the story.

Enjoyable reunited best-friends-to-lovers story

I enjoyed this best-friends-to-lovers/second chance/gay for you love story, although it didn't seem to have much to do with the description. The parents didn't seem to play that much of a role in the guys coming together or not. The story is more about the MCs, misunderstandings, falling in love, their doubts, their conflicting careers, and the fact that one of them isn't out. It's a great story about deciding what you want, being your true self, and how important that is to you. There are some pretty emotional moments, and hot sex scenes, with a wonderful HEA.

The narration was okay, but it didn't really stand out to me, either good or bad,

The long road to love

I loved this delightful story of two people pledged in marriage for the benefit of their families, without due consideration for their own needs and desires. A marriage of convenience that could become a love match. Unfortunately idle rumors, careless words, unintended eavesdropping, and a pre-existing love set the two at odds (Rachiele more than Telon). Rachiele decides she can't bear to be a neglected bride, second-best and good only for bearing Telon's heirs, so she runs away. Telon, obeying his knightly duty goes after her, and thus begins the journey (or nightmare) of a lifetime. I enjoyed the adventure, though I couldn't help but feel sorry for Telon. He gets a rough deal all the way around, though he tries to make the best of it. Through monster-infested forests, a forgetfulness spell, and an ogre, they forge on to survive and see Rachiele free an on to a new life. But after everything they go through and as they learn more about each other, is that what she really wants anymore? Can true love result, and are they brave enough to voice their feelings?

This is a delightful story, full of misunderstandings, neglectful and uncaring parents, going from making due to pushing through, adventure, magic, monsters, and so much more. I loved it and look forward to more stories in this world. Two things put me a little out of the story. I wanted to know more about the magic, and I didn't understand the whole thing about Telon's younger brother, but those are minor issues against the backdrop of a fun strangers-to enemies- to lovers romance. (I also would have loved to see Joan see what she passed up on, but that's just my spiteful heart.)

The narration was clear and easy to understand, and I thought the voices she gave the characters really suited their personalities.

Make a wish, Mercy Brown

I loved this latest audiobook for Mercy Brown. It felt like a bit of a break with a little less (though always some) personal drama for Mercy. She has certainly learned her lessons about trusting others and being careful what you wish for. It always bites you in the a$$! This time she doesn't have a choice, though, after she finds a lamp with a magic djinn inside. If she makes a wish, catastrophe could result. If she doesn't make a wish, all he$$ breaks loose. What's a girl to do? I loved seeing Mercy get over her angst due to the actions of Alice and Ladinas, and get a little happy in her love life. It was also nice to see her and Ladinas TALK about what happened. Made me able to forgive him. (I was really mad for Mercy after the 'betrayal.'') There is more time travel in this one, as Mercy has the 'opportunity' to change a past regret, but what can she change that won't muck up something else. Plenty of twists and turns, as Mercy gets to see old friends, faces old enemies. gets new enemies or maybe frenemies, and has to make some painful choices. In the end, there is a nice HFN. Just a warning if such things bother you, there is some same-sex action (after all, vampires are bisexual).

The same narrator returns for this book, and she really nails Mercy's emotions from her angst over Ladinas and Alice to her sense of betrayal that no one listens to her or trusts her. She is the perfect fit for this series.

This is a very enjoyable listen about what happens when members of the ton 'crash' a village May Day festival. Lords and ladies are not supposed to partake in such frivolity, because it is for commoners, and could result in scandal and tarnished reputations. Knowing this, Lady Emma resists when her friends want to go, but she relents when they agree to go disguised as townsfolk so no one will recognize them. Archer Wakefield, Viscount Linley and a friend are also at the event in disguise, because they too want to partake in the fun. When a wager, an inappropriate kiss, and being separated from their companions, push Emma and Archer together, they both get a May Day they never expected.

I loved the narration. Anne Marie Damman really brought the characters to life for me.
