So simple!
Reviewed: 09-21-24
I've read my fair share of motivational, self help and whatever else books but this one just explains it differently. It's so incredibly simple. I was hesitant to read it because major books promise you that you'll feel different and it doesn't happen but I truly, honestly felt different after listening to this. This book has something good inside of it. It's just such a quick and easy read that'll change the way you think. I listen to it ALL the time.

Story
Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from that shed.

Amazing

I could not stop listening to this book. Everything about this story is amazing. It's a fairy tale brought to life in a tidally different way. It's heartbreaking, wholesome, exciting, scary and heartfelt.
The narrator was PHENOMENAL. I cannot say enough good things about him. The way he changes his voice to give each character life is incredible.

But though she won the king’s contest and became his champion, Celaena has been granted neither her liberty nor the freedom to follow her heart. Reviewed: 05-15-24
I don't know why but this book felt a little hard to follow. I don't feel the type of connection with these characters that I did with ACOTAR but that doesn't diminish my rating. The book is wonderful and full of twists and turns. I really enjoy the narration as well.

I read ACOTAR many months ago (and many times) but for some reason I waited to start this series. I wish I had started sooner! I absolutely love SJM's writing. No page is gone to waste, even the details that fill the in between.
I love this story so far and the development of the characters. There is so much packed into this book and I am so excited to see how the worlds intertwine.

Story
One minute I was a courier for criminals, making ends meet so I could take care of my little brother; the next, four stunningly hot Norse gods had brought me back from the dead with wings sprouting from my back and a whole set of valkyrie powers. I guess that's just how life goes sometimes. Too bad our victory over our supernatural enemies turned out to be a farce. The divine home I thought I'd receive is a trap instead - a trap that's slowly closing in on us, dredging up every painful moment from our pasts.

This one keeps you listening and guessing. I really enjoyed the psychological focus here. Not too spicy but the spicy scenes it did have were well written.
I really like the character development as well.
The narrator's are both awesome!

Story
The gods walk among us. And they just might steal your soul...or your heart. I thought I'd survived everything life could throw at me. All I wanted was to keep my distance from the criminals I work for and get my little brother out of the hell that is our mother's house. Then I died and woke up to four stunningly hot gods telling me I'm now a valkyrie. Sly, sharp Loki. Jovial but ferocious Thor. Dreamily compassionate Baldur. Grim and secretive Hod. They all have something to teach me. And around them, my walls start to crack. But the gods didn't summon me just for kicks.

Story
The night I gave in to Kallum Locke, I sold my soul to the devil. Now that devil has returned for me, a daemon is siphoning off whatever soul I have left. The Harbinger killer has descended on Hollow’s Row amid an active case, where I’ve been hired as a consultant to profile two killers. One offering gruesome sacrifices to obtain an ancient philosophy, and the other a bad omen from my past.

Story
They say eyes are the windows to the soul—but when he looks at me through hues of slate-green and flaring blue embers, I'm terrified of what's watching me from behind his clashing gaze, something primal and feverish that threatens to melt me like fire in ice. I fear falling into Kallum Locke's pitch-black soul. But after I'm called to a crime scene to investigate the most gruesome act of violence to descend on the legendary town of Hollow's Row, I have no choice but to turn to Kallum, to the man I had locked away in an asylum for the criminally insane.

This book has it ALL. Murder, hatred, sex, twists and some serious mind games! I want to listen again and see if I can spot some Easter eggs.

I earned my reputation among magicians for a reason: one wrong move and you're dead. Killer, they called me, and killing is what I'm best at. Except her. The one I was supposed to take, the one I should have killed–I didn't. The cult that once controlled me wants her, and I'm not about to lose my new toy to them.

I wasn't sure how to feel about it at first. (I took a week break after the cemetery scene, it just felt a little cringy. But man, oh man, am I glad I finished it! For being a horror plot, it was surprisingly light and hilarious to me. It was some seriously intense spice!! I also absolutely LOVE the descriptions of the evil that lurks in the woods, very well done.
I also laughed out loud many times throughout the book.
