Do yourself a big favor. Stay away from this one. Four children & multiple adults are abused in the most horrendous ways. A number of them are murdered. And then the police are unable to find sufficient evidence to lock these monsters away forever. It’s all sickening.

Olsen’s writing is superb. Pierce’s narration is pitch perfect. Be ready to listen carefully to catch all the names and details. This is what we wish every audiobook would achieve.

The plot was drippy & predictable. The characters were predictable. The dialogue could have been written by a high schooler. What a waste of a credit!

This book is unforgettable, powerful, and revealing. Superb - it’s like a stealth bomber coming in under the radar. As others have said I “couldn’t put it down,” in fact when I woke in the middle of the night to I searched back to find the last part I remembered hearing. It will be #1 on my recommendation list now. Probably equally crucial is the narration of this book. Vs.reading a book in my own head voice, hearing the story in an African American’s voice made it all the more impactful for me, an old white lady. I’d probably gift the audiobook for those in my circle to whom I’d recommend it, if they don’t have an audible account.

This author is a writer for tabloid quality websites & publications. If you’re looking for actual. Journalism, keep looking. Anyone who’s read a book on this topic, newspaper in the past 30 yrs or a high quality publication knows these stories. This author paints all it with pink rose petals, mystery, gore, and sickening relentless trash talking. But it’s not journalism or history. Buyers remorse for me.

Being much older than Cassidy I wondered what I would personally gain from this book. Faith, still, in many in government, resolve to do what I can going forward, deeper love for this country, and greater confidences in our next generations - Hutchinson’s grace brings exactly what the best books do. The depth of her personal conflict and resolve come through most clearly. I’ll be passing this book on to my daughter and then to other young people. A perfect Fourth of July read.

Maestros and…. Is my favorite book of the year thus far and will be an all time favorite. Maestro Mauceri answered so many questions I’ve had as a novice novice music student and long time classical music lover. His chapters go far beyond those questions into fascinating details.

Maestro Mauceri’s narration is beautiful. It’s like having a personal conversation or class with him. His stories of composers (of my generation, Bernstein especially, a favorite) gave me many insights into the complexity of conducting. This one’s a real treasure. Get it! Worth double credits.

I haven’t finished this book in fact I’m only in chapter 12. But I’m finding this book very off putting, distasteful, and stomach churning. Has this author not heard it’s 2024, not 1960? Even as a northerner I know the South has changed. The saturation of white racism preaching, band standIng, and old plotting has me thinking of returning this book. Baldacci seems to have not heard also that all cops are not racist thugs. I’m having a hard time guessing what might be the value of this book in 2024. A history lesson for someone who’s been under a rock for 50+ years? High school students do not even need this over the top “history lesson” diatribe. East coast urban dwellers who are culturally deprived? Baldacci himself? I’m giving it 5 more chapters. Thankfully they’re short.

All the Things We Would Never Say Out Loud

Author Ashley Audrain captured our great American womanhood (the guilt, the hurts, the envies, the wondering…) so thoroughly and said it all aloud! Using the character of a ten year old Chloe, to 82 yr old Mara the pervasive burden, doubts, and responsibilities for a family’s happiness is illustrated through the story of Xavier’s fall. It’s tragic & daunting & always dulled by more wine. This book will take multiple readings to uncover all the layers of meaning & value. It’s riveting, tremendously sad, and stunning. Another favorite for me from Ashley Audrain. Bravo!
