Story
Martha Friel just turned forty. Once, she worked at Vogue and planned to write a novel. Now, she creates internet content. She used to live in a pied-à-terre in Paris. Now she lives in a gated community in Oxford, the only person she knows without a PhD, a baby or both, in a house she hates but cannot bear to leave. But she must leave, now that her husband Patrick—the kind who cooks, throws her birthday parties, who loves her and has only ever wanted her to be happy—has just moved out.

Great story but audio is missing some parts
Reviewed: 09-29-21
The writing is excellent and witty. The protagonist was not always likable at parts but her journey to self discovery felt genuine. I think that the intense descriptions of mental health issues require one to be in the right frame of mind. The narration was perfect. Note on audio: I often listen to audiobooks while following along with physical books. I have a copy published in the UK and for some reason some paragraphs and sentences here and there were skipped from the audiobook. I’m not sure why this would be as I think parts omitted added to the context. This isn’t an abridged version so I don’t know why that would be. All told probably two to three pages were skipped in total so not a lot but still unfortunate. Overall a great read/listen.

Story
In the house of Helios, god of the sun and mightiest of the Titans, a daughter is born. But Circe is a strange child—not powerful, like her father, nor viciously alluring like her mother. Turning to the world of mortals for companionship, she discovers that she does possess power—the power of witchcraft, which can transform rivals into monsters and menace the gods themselves.

A captivating story

Circe is a captivating story spanning many lifetimes filled with adventure and memorable characters brought to life by the narrator. I could not stop listening. I was first intimidated by the lengthy cast of characters but found they were not too difficult to keep up with. I highly recommend!

Enjoyed story and narration
Reviewed: 08-14-19
The story picked up the pace after a bit of a slow start and was a page turner after that. I enjoy audible books narrated by British authors and am a big fan of Imogen Church. There are twists and turns that I found unexpected. There are flips between past and present without notice so it was a little hard to track the timeline at times. **Trigger earnings for abuse of an individual with a mental health disability and animal abuse**. These are two situations that I have a hard time with but it was not overly done. Just a comment for those that might like to know.

Enjoyed the story and narration by the author!

I could not stop listening as the story unfolded. I also enjoyed the narration by the author as I felt it added to the production. The accents, emphasis and pronunciation were exactly as the author intended as she narrated it all herself. Only wish the story kept going...
