Historia
A novelist ambles down the lanes of a cosy country village, replete with Tudor houses and quaint cottages. In her writer's mind she pictures the sordid truth beyond the veneer, a seemingly laughable proposition - until the coming of the letters. Anonymous letters from a poisoned pen, sowing discord and defaming everybody from the Rector to the 'queen of the village' Miss Decima Asprey. Naturally, where there is venom in the air and dark secrets are threatening to come to light, the shadow of death is not far behind.

Very enjoyable book!
Revisado: 06-17-24
Great story and well written narrative. Has a nice plot depth that many novels of this genre lack but it is not dense or heavy. It maintains a Regency novel charm. Good pacing. Sympathetic main characters and interesting secondary characters. The narrator is PHENOMENAL. I will definitely buy the author's other books.

Historia
When the body of a suicide victim disappears at West Point Military Academy in 1831, only to be discovered hours later missing its heart, the Academy calls on retired detective Gus Landor to investigate. Landor is something of a legend among his peers, noted for an uncanny, Holmesian ability to read people. When Edgar Allan Poe, a new cadet, comes forth with his own cryptic conclusion—that the man Landor is looking for is a poet—Landor is intrigued and enlists Poe as his assistant.

Good but somewhat overrated
Revisado: 04-26-23
Interesting story concept and decent prose but I think my appreciation of it was hindered because of the narrator.. I found his voice flat and dry and hard on the ears. The dynamics and expression/emotion he tries to inject into his reading do not sound authentic but forced and unnatural.

Asher Todd comes to live with the mysterious Morwood family as a governess to their children. Asher knows little about being a governess but she is skilled in botany and herbcraft, and perhaps more than that. And she has secrets of her own, dark and terrible—and Morwood is a house that eats secrets. With a monstrous revenge in mind, Asher plans to make it choke. However, she becomes fond of her charges, of the people of the Tarn, and she begins to wonder if she will be able to execute her plan—and who will suffer most if she does.

Disappointed
Revisado: 04-01-23
No respect for the main character. I grew weary of all the overused leftist tropes and cliches the author uses. Apart from that, the story lagged. Events happen but it takes forever for them to mean anything, if they do.
