Story
Indian American journalist Smita has returned to India to cover a story, but reluctantly: long ago she and her family left the country with no intention of ever coming back. As she follows the case of Meena–a Hindu woman attacked by members of her own village and her own family for marrying a Muslim man–Smita comes face to face with a society where tradition carries more weight than one's own heart, and a story that threatens to unearth the painful secrets of Smita's own past.

While the storyline was interesting it got very depressing to hear about the continued oppression and powerless of the women.

Annoyed at the Ted Talk reference at that start of every chapter. What of women who don’t listen to their gut instinct and intuition in 2021, like rag dolls to be manipulated by a man. Avoid.

Story
Olive is many things. Independent. Adrift. Anxious. Loyal. Kind. Knows her own mind. It’s okay that she’s still figuring it all out, navigating her world without a compass. But life comes with expectations, there are choices to be made, boxes to tick and - sometimes - stereotypes to fulfil. And when her best friends’ lives start to branch away towards marriage and motherhood, leaving the path they’ve always followed together, Olive starts to question her choices - because life according to Olive looks a little bit different.

White middle class story - funny at times

Not a bad story just got tired with the lack of diversity of thought or voice from the characters. How do people get away with books set in present day London with such conformity and blandness is worth exploring.
Appreciate the attempt at normalizing life choices that differ from expectations.
