Story
Tatum hasn’t seen her daughter, Adrienne, in years, not since Tatum’s husband—the pastor in their small California town—all but disowned her. When she finally gathers the courage to secretly reconnect with Adrienne, Tatum’s thrilled she’s even willing to talk to her. But then—Adrienne disappears. When Adrienne doesn’t show up for her shift at the bar where Tatum’s been visiting her, she knows something is wrong. Adrienne may have been a bit of a wild child, but she hasn’t missed a day of work without calling in for years.

Reader was drama drama drama
Reviewed: 04-02-24
I will say the story was ok it is hard to tell the narrator that read the mom was so over the top with the drama in her reading. Warbly voice sounding like she is going to cry. They can get the feelings of the book across without that. the male narrator was great he got across all the emotions without any of that the narrator for the daughter was good. A narrator can take an ok book and make it really good a way to much drama, anger, warbly drama etc can take a good or even great book and make it so hard to listen to that you cannot connect with the characters or enjoy the story. I found myself rolling my eyes over and over being aggravated with the woman who read the mom Tatum. She ruined the story for me.

Story
The name's Torres, Bonnie Torres, and I'm a paranormal scene investigator - rooting out the truth about crimes of magic. It's dangerous and boring and scary and fascinating. Though not everyone in the Cosa Nostradamus is happy we're around, which can make things…tricky. Working two cases - looking into a murder for the NYPD, and a rich man's break-in - should be well within our abilities. But when things start getting weird in the Electric Apple, Private Unaffiliated Paranormal Investigations is stretched to the limits, trying to keep one step ahead and out of trouble.

It's the end of the 19th century in San Francisco's Chinatown, and ghost hunters from the Maoshan traditions of Daoism keep malevolent spiritual forces at bay. Li-lin, the daughter of a renowned Daoshi exorcist, is a young widow burdened with yin eyes - the unique ability to see the spirit world. Her spiritual visions and the death of her husband bring shame to Li-lin and her father - and shame is not something this immigrant family can afford.
