Substandard at best.

The story was full of plot holes, poorly thought up contrived plot devices, and felt more like an amateur attempt to combine other authors' stories. In fact I would bet money this book was either seriously rushed or the author is dividing one book into three, to appear like he can write a series.
Half of the Narrator's voices are either whispers or what sounds like trying to speak through a belch... Will never listen to another book narrated by him again.

Story
At the best of times, Jeremiah could be described as a vengeful man. In the worst of times, one could call him a monster. The reality, though, was that he was a monster hunter. Or that's how he liked to style himself. In a world of creatures that went bump in the night, few fought for humanity. Fewer still put humanity first. Fighting with sword, blade, or word, their numbers were insufficient. Those who did did so from places and situations that the world didn't appreciate or condone. That they'd actively disavow and ignore.

Painful and Boring to listen to

This is a hot pile of garbage story and plot... Hours of whining and self interspection. I have bad toothaches that were more pleasant than the aimless droning of the MC. No plot or direction in what happening in the story, just hours of listening of listening to someone's inner monologue.

Headaches... The Plot holes and forced outcomes are constant.
Reviewed: 06-01-24
This is an example of the author trying to elevate their writing prowess artificially by trying to use Hard Science to always defeat every challenge in a word with magic...
Then the author focuses too hard on those same Hard Science rules, that the story, plot, and reader's investment suffers at an exponential rate. Like a party of three level 20ish mates and alchemist characters killing dungeons bosses at level 80, 100, and 120, just because the MC is so smart...
Many poor editing errors riddle the book, such as; repeated chapter quotes, character and skill stats being inconsistent, the simple math of character's Mana not being enough for the volume of spells detailed in the fights. The wrong character's name being used during battles, and ect.
What is the hardest aspect of this story to accept is the idiot Astrophysicist MC, who the author pretty much has everyone worshipping as the smartest man alive... Even to the point that during an Apocalypse, that of the military just accept his ideas and That he starts to believe it and believes he can survive and safe humanity with his superior intelligence... Never mind anyone who can fight or have leadership qualities... Nope, the MC is the smartest man in world after investing in only raising his intelligence stat.
The entire book is irrational and irritating to listen too. Like playing a RPG game with friends and a newbie joins in and starts to argue that their fireball spell can instant kill the dragon because of a technical vague wording in the GM rulebook...

Story
Kaiju: Battlefield Surgeon. Survival horror. One of the most brutal, most terrifying full-immersion games ever made. A place where fantasy characters such as elves and dwarves clash with technology, where giant monsters roam the hills, entrusted with protecting the gates of heaven from the demons who would tear it all down. A game where one plays the last of the battlefield surgeons: a healer tasked with keeping the behemoths alive at all costs. But on this server, they don't care about the game. They've come because of the game's most unique feature: full pain.

Whiny MC... boring plot... Dumbest choices
Reviewed: 01-12-24
"This is too much... This is too much..." You will hear this remark said when the MC stubs his toe to respawning... The consequences to his incredibly stupid decisions will also result him curling in a fetal position and muttering that phrase... It gets tiresome and detracts from the story when you want the MC to simply die so the book ends.
The world plot and game logic is sound and pretty balanced. But the two major characters you have to suffer throughout the book, ruins any enjoyment in the novel concept of a serial killer paradise VR story.

Virtual Dive technology is coming out of the workplace and into homes. Nigmus Online is the first MMO to use this new device. The only caveat to the game: There is no manual. The only instruction the player gets is how to interact with the user interface. That's it. Nobody is going to hold their hand or give out rare items. Players begin life as a level-zero commoner. It's entirely up to them what class they become.

Wholely uninteresting, Potential plot wasted
Reviewed: 12-29-23
Clearly a first attempt at writing. The concept.was interesting until the poorly fleshed out and conceived characters were included. Then the plot, story, and obstacles turned pointless and bored me to sleep many times.
The two main characters are entirely unlikeable and have no growth. The challenges and backgrounds story of why they are who they are was poorly used to give us the impression of underdog or characters not root for... Instead their stories were pointless, contrived, and really served to make their plots and story feel forced into unnatural decisions and roles.
The rest of the characters and story is merely background noise to hours of wasted time. Nothing is done or served in the plot or story itself. You can sleep thru half the book and miss nothing. Or better yet, simply skip this book entirely and save your money and time.

Excellent Plot & Story. Both Narrators are Great

Expected pretty much smut with a subpar and unrealistic plot/MC
BUT all.the characters are fully fleshed out. The world is intriguing. The story has real conflicts and challenges from the MC. The plot is very rich, with the story flow natural and believable. The story is highly entertaining and the few sex scenes are not forced or over the top.
I am highly surprised and impressed by the Author's work.
Both Narrators truly brought life to the story, characters, and world. Every character's voice and personality is distinct, preventing any confusion on what is going on in the scenes. I would definitely listen to other audiobooks narrated by either person.

Villains Code series gets more boring
Reviewed: 10-25-23
I loved the first book... Not a fan of the 2nd. I thought the Big Bad was unoriginal and minor characters from the first book were no longer included. The new "heroes team" was just annoying. Tori was nothing more than an angry self absorbed whiny baby with a mech...
This collection of short stories only deepens the boring and pointless aspects of the VC universe... I hope no more Villain Code books are written. Drew has many better series to continue.
