Story
In this compulsively listenable tale of secrets, lies, and deception, Gilly Macmillan explores the darkest impulses and desires of the human heart. Diabolically clever, The Nanny reminds us that sometimes the truth hurts so much you’d rather hear the lie.

You should listen!

After reading other reviews that the ending was abrupt and the characters annoying, I didn’t think I was going to enjoy this as much as I did. It is a wonderful story and a great listen. I enjoyed the narrators, they did a fantastic job portraying the characters. I don’t understand how anyone could think the ending was abrupt, there were many things leading up to the way it ended. I hate it when endings are dragged out, long after the climax of the story. Highly recommend for a good listen!

Story
For nearly a year, Beth has been planning for her escape. She's thought through everything - a new look, new name and new city - because one small slip and her husband will find her. A couple hundred miles away, Jeffrey returns home from a work trip to find his wife, Sabine, is missing. Wherever she is, she’s taken almost nothing with her. Her abandoned car is the only evidence the police have, and all signs point to foul play.

Did not do it for me.

Nothing about this story pulled me in while listening. For one thing, I thought that Beth’s inner dialogue felt very contrived, nothing about it sounded natural to me- I couldn’t tell if it was the writing or narrator, maybe a combination of both. I listened to the entire thing because I had read other reviews about a big twist, but even that didn’t really impress me. It got slightly more interesting toward the end, but even then I still thought it was boring. The last half hour I kept checking to see how much time was left, I just wanted to finish it and move on.
