Story
Riley “Blues Boy” King (1925-2015) was born into deep poverty in Jim Crow Mississippi. Wrenched away from his sharecropper father, B.B. lost his mother at age 10, leaving him more or less alone. Music became his emancipation from exhausting toil in the fields. Inspired by a local minister’s guitar and by the records of Blind Lemon Jefferson and T-Bone Walker and encouraged by his cousin, the established blues man Bukka White, B.B. taught his guitar to sing in the unique solo style that, along with his relentless work ethic and humanity, became his trademark.

A good look at the King
Reviewed: 03-21-23
A great story told through many different interviews and points of view. BB was a kind hearted guitar player that became a King. The reading was well done but I found myself having to adjust the volume a lot. The energy of the reader didn’t carry through all takes of his recording.

Wonderful life story of a blues legend
Reviewed: 02-24-23
I have been a fan of Buddy Guys for over 25 years. I always wanted to know more about his life. This book is a look into his life story with all of its ups and downs. Intertwining his life movements and music with legendary friends and musicians. If it were a movie I would watch it a thousand times. Buddy Guy is an American legend.

Story
While the North prevailed in the Civil War, ending slavery and giving the country a "new birth of freedom," Heather Cox Richardson argues in this provocative work that democracy's blood-soaked victory was ephemeral. The system that had sustained the defeated South moved westward and there established a foothold. It was a natural fit. Settlers from the East had for decades been pushing into the West, where the seizure of Mexican lands at the end of the Mexican-American War and treatment of Native Americans cemented racial hierarchies....

An attack on white men advertised as history. The author truly goes through history picking inspiring hateful quotes from men that shaped America. Bastardizing our legacy as an important country that has shaped the world. The author capitalized on our mistakes and blames the southern white man ideals for every mistake in our countries history. I listened to the entire book to make sure my first thought after listening to the introduction was accurate. I truly hope this book burns.

In Brother Robert, nonagenarian Annye C. Anderson sheds new light on a real-life figure largely obscured by his own legend: her kind and incredibly talented stepbrother, Robert Johnson. This book chronicles Johnson's unconventional path to stardom, from the harrowing story behind his illegitimate birth, to his first strum of the guitar on Anderson's father's knee, to the genre-defining recordings that would one day secure his legacy.
