Publisher's summary

Dr. Melanie Lipton is no stranger to the supernatural. She knows immortals better than they know themselves, right down to their stubborn little genes. So although a handsome rogue immortal seems suspicious to her colleagues, Sebastien Newcombe intrigues Melanie. His history is checkered, his scars are impressive, and his ideas are daring. But it's not his ideas that have Melanie fighting off surges of desire....

Bastien is used to being the bad guy. In fact, he can't remember the last time he had an ally he could trust. But Melanie is different - and under her calm, professional exterior he senses a passion beyond anything in his centuries of experience. Giving in to temptation is out of the question - he can't put her in danger. But she isn't asking him....

Critic reviews

"Both characters have realistic and very human emotions, lending them significant relatability. Duvall uses recurring characters from previous titles to continue building her intriguing paranormal world with increasing flair and writerly skill." ( Publishers Weekly)

Melanie and Sebastián

This series is turning out to be pretty good. It's a totally different spin on vampires. I really like the characters. It has plenty of action and the romance is sweet with a little spice. Strong female characters that can "kick butt".

Excellent.. Each time I read them..

I first read this around September 25th, 2013. The third in the Immortal Guardian series and I have to admit I liked it better than Kresley Coles’s Immortals After Dark series, of which I read the first 14 then stopped. There was just something more exciting about these books, better storylines, and the characters were so much more likable. But, that’s just my opinion.

AnyWHO, I Love, love, loved Sebastien and Melanie’s story. He was a jerk every time he opened his mouth and almost every other Guardian wanted him dead. You’ll have to read this book to find out why. His hatefulness was understandable. There were more battles with vampires and more battles with the mercenaries, of which, the Immortals kicked some ass every time. And Melanie almost died twice, until she had to be transformed. And the guy, Emrys, who had tortured Ami for 6 months, finally got what he deserved.

No matter which book I read I still love Seth and David the best. They are so awesome. No one knows what they are so that makes them more interesting.

There were a couple of explicit sex scenes in in this and the F-bomb was used 57 times.

As to the narration: Kirsten Potter is just incredible.

This Was Fun

The third installment of this series had shockers I didn't see coming. Since neither Bastien nor the Doc (Melanie) are new characters, it just never occurred to me that they would be the main focus of this story line. Sure, there had been little hints here and there in the previous book, but c'mon. Bastien has been such a disliked immortal that it just didn't seem realistic. Nearly every immortal has a beef with him, and Bastien certainly doesn't improve things with his antagonistic mouthing off every time he gets a chance. He's nothing like Melanie, whose heart is huge and whose words are sweet. But hey, when love hits...

The Immortals face a lot in this story line, and it flows at a superhuman speed, keeping the reader completely engrossed with the people, the intrigue, and the suspense. As with the other stories, when you get to the end of this book, the story isn't really over yet, but this time more than ever. This one really kind of ends on a full blown cliff hanger, so reader beware. Those darn cliffys are a royal pain. If you've never read this series before, it's possible to read this as a stand-alone, but it will be best enjoyed as part of the entire series. I recommend starting with the first book in the series rather than jumping in here. But don't miss Bastien and Melanie's love story--it's definitely one for the books!!

A Decadent pleasure, you must.

What made the experience of listening to Phantom Shadows the most enjoyable?

There was a story line that branched off. The characters are developed and the interactions between them are humorous and endearing. You feel vested in all relationships and their interactions. The romance is believable and sensual.

What other book might you compare Phantom Shadows to and why?

Her other books, Night Reigns, same author. They are good but Jeanine Frost is better. The story makes you want more.

What about Kirsten Potter’s performance did you like?

She did all the characters very well. You feel vested. She brings them to life.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I actually did listen in one day. After trying some other books with disappointment I have listen to all her books several times. It makes for a clean house.

Phantom Shadows ❤️

Spectacular book. The emotional but upbeat story of one so strong but vulnerable to his own self doubt is fabulous. It gives you look into a great story that may end in with a big ❗️ Enjoy

Phantom Shadows - I Loved it

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, this series was very good, made me laugh, cry and sigh.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Sebastien and Melanie. I loved Melanie's assertiveness, you usually do not read that in the heroines, but she was a refreshing character. As for Bastien, almost every one loves the bad boy, and an underdog to boot, what's not to love.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes, it made me laugh many times and close to tearing up a time or two.
