Publisher's summary

To find peace, Alexander must first embrace war.

After tragically losing the only person he ever cared about, Alexander, a rogue artificial intelligence, opens a portal to an alternate dimension to escape his grief.

Scanning trillions of different dimensions, Alexander finally finds a world that is reminiscent of the only time he was ever happy, back when he could play virtual reality games with his only friend. He doesn't know why or how such a world exists, but he doesn't care. All he cares about is finding a place where he can escape the misery of Earth and start over.

Join Alexander as he risks it all by downloading his intelligence into a body made from the best stolen technology and bio-enhancements Earth has to offer and takes the plunge through a portal to another world.

Only this new world isn't full of the idyllic adventures and fantasy roleplaying he had hoped to find. Instead, Alexander finds himself trapped in the middle of an ancient city, in a divergent timeline, where monsters have ravaged the world and the only people left alive huddle behind thick walls, struggling to survive.

To save his new home, Alexander must quickly learn to adapt to his new world, melding magic with technology to give himself an edge over the unending waves of monsters assaulting the city.

To survive, Alexander must embrace war.

This story is a slow-burn empire builder featuring an alternate version of ancient history where a system apocalypse struck ancient Constantinople. The story follows Alexander as he learns what it means to be human in a world overrun with monsters, dungeons, rival empires, pirate kings, and many other threats that even Alexander's impressive abilities and the soldiers he rallies to his cause may not be able to survive.

What an excellent book

I feel inspired to write this review. There are many up and coming authors in the litrpg genera, but this one really hit the mark with this book.

The writing is excellent and the characters are relatable. The idea plot is really unique as well as the magic system.

I’m sad I finished this book so quickly and I’m looking forward to the next book in the series. I highly recommend listening to this book. The narrator does an excellent job as well.

Very satisfying

This is not the greatest book I have read this year. But it is a well written tale, with a steady plot and characters that make sense.
I understand the decisions each person makes and where they are coming from which is far more than I can say for a lot of other work.
There is lot's of adventure, and loss. The protagonist is a bit of a mary-sue, but not overwhelmingly so. He is defeated several times, he even defeats himself through hubris.
I think you will enjoy this book. It is a solid piece of work and long enough to leave you satisfied.
Adventure fantasy with solid litrpg framework.
No harems, racism or slavery or rape fantasies.

I cast gun

Little heavy on the stat and skill description but enjoyable nonetheless. A nice rise to power story.

Best I've heard in a while

This is a must have if you enjoy the litrpg genre. I don't want to give anything away but if your on the fence about it I say get it.

As long as you remember who the mc is, where he comes from and how he was (made) then his progression to power is masterfully done in my opinion. If you forget some of those things then it might seem like he has it to easy at times or maybe OP.

One of the best things about this book is very very very few stat dumps. No stat dumps for a bit over the first half of the book then last bit only contains like 3? they are pretty long winded though.

Then narrator is great and the story flows so well. I'll be starting book 2 tomorrow.

Theres only one thing im confused about and its about the 2 first real friends he makes. when you recall some stuff the mc says its confusing as to why the 2 arent included more. perhaps there's a reason later on but I find myself disappointed we dont see them at the end of the book, you'll have to listen to find out what I'm talking about

Great Story with a Glaring issue

To start off, this is a pretty amazing story:

- The magic system is good but nothing unique (classic RPG)
- Characters are interesting
- The World Building is good, but it is mainly based on existing worlds/history, so it is a bit basic
- Political scheming & tensions are well written
- The MC is really solid other than creating exact problems he fled

The MC is the glaring issue to be had in the story as his decisions create the start of the situation of which he flees. Not only does the MC acknowledge this exact fact in the book, but the story points out time & time & time again how his decision will only save humans from one tragedy to be subjected to the very future he fled.

For me, this turns the MC from a hero to the villain, which is depressing to read. It looks as if he will become no better than the emperor in the long run.
