On May 27, 1784, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart met a flirtatious little starling in a Viennese shop who sang an improvised version of the theme from his Piano Concerto no. 17 in G major. Sensing a kindred spirit in the plucky young bird, Mozart bought him and took him home to be a family pet. For three years the starling lived with Mozart, influencing his work and serving as his companion, distraction, consolation, and muse.

Felt like a book written just for me!
I finished listening to this book yesterday. I loved it so much that ordered the hard cover book as well. Throughout most of the book, I felt like she wrote it just for me. I am a writer and yoga teacher who studies secular Buddhist philosophy. I was also raised Catholic and grew up in the country naming places in the pasture, woods, and creek. I love science, as well. The only thing I didn't relate to was solo camping. I understand the draw, but it's not for me.
I can't wait to read the book again!

Interesting
At first, I thought this book was a bit too airy fairy for me, but I gradually warmed to it. The author reflects on the intersection of science, nature and spirituality and what that has meant in her own life. It reminds me of Anne Morrow Lindberg’s “Gift from the Sea” in that her observations on the natural world circle around to her own life and the interconnectedness of all things. If you’re receptive to this line of thinking, you’ll probably enjoy this book which is sincere and thoughtful.
